The Latest: Congressman to remain on ballot despite charges
Source: AP
Republican U.S. Rep. Chris Collins says he will remain on the ballot running for re-election in New York as he fights charges that he used inside information about a biotechnology company to make illicit stock trades.
At a press conference Wednesday night, Collins called the charges meritless and said he looks forward to being exonerated. He earlier pleaded not guilty to insider-trading charges.
Prosecutors say Collins got an email while attending a picnic last year at the White House that the companys medication had failed an important medical trial. They say Collins told his son, who then dumped his stock in the company before the trial results were announced publicly.

(1,134 posts)After all, this is BUFFALO, where candidates wear an indictment as a badge of honor! His opponent has a few grand in his kitty, while Chris Felon has well over a Mil! Trump will come in for a rally, and Collins will probably squeak out a victory by a few points, and all will be OK again in Repuke world. I'll send McMurray a few bucks and all my hopes, but I'm not going to expect an outright win. However, all these cases are still building toward a HUGE BLUE WAVE come November. I'm a Scorpion and I expect a DEM Congress as my birthday gift, and a DEM Senate would be Xmas, too! But this is possible only if we forego all our internal pissing contests, and keep our eyes on the PRIZE!!
