Kansas Dems choose Sharice Davids to challenge Rep. Kevin Yoder for seat in Congress
Source: The Kansas City Star
Sharice Davids could make history in November after Kansas Democrats selected the Johnson County attorney as their nominee for a race that could help decide control of the U.S. House.
Davids, the winner of a six-way primary race, would be the first Native American woman elected to Congress if she prevails over U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, the incumbent Republican from Overland Park, in the general election.
She also would be the first openly LGBT person to represent Kansas at either the federal or state level.
Davids won Tuesdays hotly contested and crowded Democratic primary by capturing 37 percent of the vote, edging out her closest competitor in Brent Welder, who received 34 percent, by 2,088 votes.

She pulled it out in the middle of the night. The most satisfying result so far this primary season.
CONGRATULATIONS!

(18,124 posts)another one that the minor faction leader and his 'rising star' tried to destroy wins!!!!!!!!! My choice beat the hell out of another acolyte from the minor faction leader in our huge tent called the Democratic Party. No one is being fooled by that democratic socialist bullshit. Go Sharice!!!!!!!
If I see "justice democrats" I think angry white guys pretending to be democrats to help Trump. It's just getting more and more visible.

(18,351 posts)It's a shame that Dr. Jill did her dirty work in Ohio and deprived the people in the district of a Democratic representative and gave Trump another victory".

(3,836 posts)Deb Haaland of New Mexico also has an extremely good chance
(CNN) "Deb Haaland has won the primary for New Mexico's 1st Congressional District, CNN projects, putting her on track to become the first Native American woman in Congress." June 6, 2018
Haaland was born in Winslow, Arizona. She is a member of the Laguna Pueblo people.
"Haaland earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of New Mexico in 1994. She earned her Juris Doctor in Indian law from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2006. She served as the tribal administrator for the San Felipe Pueblo from January 2013 to November 2015. She was elected to a two-year term as the Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico in April 2015. During her tenure, New Mexico Democrats regained control of the New Mexico House of Representatives."
If elected in November, Haaland would become the first Native American woman in the United States Congress, representing New Mexico's 1st congressional district in the 2018 elections.
Hopefully Deb Haaland and Sharice Davids will both win.. Two Native American women in Congress for the first time - what a wonderful affirmation!! Congratulations to both women!!

(1,399 posts)I don't know if I qualify as a "Welder folk" but I might
Regardless, Sharice Davids is the nominee and she will get my enthusiastic support.
Cook moved the race to tossup which means there is zero excuse for doing anything less.
It will be in the form of money because I'm pretty sure going me going door to door in Kansas would cost us votes and probably get me shot, but this becomes a race which we can accomplish two important goals
1. WIN (the most important goal); and,
2. Stand with the LGBTQ community which has stood with us.
