New York sues Trump administration over program for 'predatory employers'
Source: Reuters
NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York on Monday filed a lawsuit seeking to compel the Trump administration to turn over more information about a pilot program allowing employers to resolve violations of federal overtime and minimum wage laws without penalties.
According to the lawsuit, filed against the U.S. Department of Labor by New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood in Manhattan federal court, the department had failed to respond to a request for more information submitted in April under the federal freedom of information law.
In a statement, Underwood called the administrations pilot program nothing more than a get-out-of-jail-free card for predatory employers.
New York workers have a right to know why the Secretary of Labor decided to let employers off the hook when they dont pay their workers, she said.

(23,147 posts)Now they actually passed a law that employers can withhold earned pay in violation of labor laws and gets zero punishment. Words can't convey the depths of the treachery that's happening now and the worse sort we'll be experiencing if he keeps control of all 3 branches of the government after 2018.

I taught school and if my students were allowed to get away with something they would. Humans are this way at any age. Rewards and punishments are necessary. That is why regulations and restrictions are needed on the greedy bastards.

(32,714 posts)Sorry I don't know what the law is called, but basically restaurant and hotel owners are now able to keep tips that were meant for the employees and they don't even have to report the income. I don't know if this is about that, but that new law is outrageous.
I always pay tips in cash now and hand it directly to the service employee. By adding the tip onto your credit card receipt, you are enabling the employer to ring it up as part of the "sale" and the unscrupulous ones can keep the tips.
