Trump calls for food stamp work requirements in farm bill
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Thursday urged House and Senate lawmakers to adopt strict work requirements for food stamps when they craft a merged farm bill.
When the House and Senate meet on the very important Farm Bill we love our farmers - hopefully they will be able to leave the WORK REQUIREMENTS FOR FOOD STAMPS PROVISION that the House approved, Trump tweeted. Senate should go to 51 votes!
Conservatives have seized on the work requirement provisions as key to a final version of the farm bill.
The House version would require all adults aged 18 to 59 to work at least 20 hours a week or be enrolled in a training program in order to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The work requirements are projected to cut SNAP enrollment by up to 1 million people and would decrease spending on SNAP by $20 billion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

(38,439 posts)Trump is cozying up to the right wing pukes to get their support. He will need their support when things get really rough for Trump. He doesn't give a shit about "work requirements" All he cares about is the trouble that he is headed for. He will need all their help...every single republican congress person there is. And the bottom line is he doesn't care if people starve to death without those requirements. All he wants is the republican support when the shit its the fan..
...And it will hit, one way or another. If we take the House and the Senate, it will be a mighty big hit.

(20,209 posts)"The number of SNAP households that have earnings while participating in SNAP has been rising for more than a decade, and has more than tripled from about 2 million in 2000 to about 6.4 million in 2011. (See Figure 2.) The increase was especially pronounced during the recent deep recession, suggesting that many people have turned to SNAP because of under-employment for example, when one wage-earner in a two-parent family lost a job, when a workers hours were cut, or when a worker turned to a lower-paying job after being laid off."

(4,111 posts)If he cares so much about farmers, why would he want to implement a work requirement, which will ultimately decrease the amount of SNAP benefits that are received.

(10,033 posts)That would save several million while teaching them something about self sufficiency and responsibility. I understand taxpayers would still have to pay for secret service protection, but certainly the spawn should be paying for their own flights, meals, entertainment, and lodging for their business ventures as most adult businessmen do.

(430 posts)That's about 15 hours more than our elected reps work!
Guess they'll be eligible for free meals, transportation minimal healthcare, meaningless education or retraining just like those who really need the help.
If anyone should be required to work to live, it's the Congress and Senate
