GOP lawmaker dined with alleged Russian agent in DC: report
Source: The Hill
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) once dined with the Russian woman who was indicted earlier this month on charges of acting as an unregistered foreign agent of Moscow, according to ABC News.
The network reported on Thursday that Rohrabachers office confirmed he met with the then-28-year-old Russian at French eatery Bistro Bis in Washington, D.C., in February 2017.
In addition, federal officials told ABC that Butina had arranged a meeting two years earlier in St. Petersburg that Rohrabacher attended.
The report comes about a week after Rohrabacher first admitted he met with Butina while visiting Russia with a congressional delegation in August 2015. Rohrabacher pushed back against its potential significance, though, saying he was joined by another U.S. lawmaker, along with other Americans.

(43,364 posts)should open their minds and ears to learn what he's been up to. They are negligent if they don't.
I once heard a Democratic committeeman advise about voting: learn all you can about who you vote for. So many people just vote by party. They pull the lever. "Don't give away your vote." Understand who and what you vote for. Voting without knowledge is just surrendering to the process, to the party, to the advertising.
"Don't give away your vote!"
This line of thought pressures parties to put up better, more informed, more articulate candidates. If we can't compete on that level, we deserve to lose. And we Democrats do have better candidates.

KIEV, Ukraine A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"There's two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump," McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy's assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.
