Ann Romney Woos Hispanic Voters, Urging They Get Past Their Biases
Tampa, Fla. -Ann Romneys convention speech was directly aimed at wooing female voters, but at a lunch event Wednesday she changed her focus and pitched her husband to Hispanic voters, a voting bloc that is especially important in this battleground state, urging them to get past the biases
from the Democratic machine.
I spoke to women last night and I wanted women to understand how important this election is for their children, but as I was sitting backstage listening, I thought, its also very important that the Latino community recognize how important this election is for them, Romney said at the Latino Coalition luncheon Wednesday. And they are mistaken if they think they are going to be better off with Barack Obama as their president. There really is only one way for prosperity, for small business, and that is, this is the simplest way I can say this: If Mitt Romney wins, America wins.
Romney said her importance in speaking out is making sure that those coalitions, referring to women and Hispanic voters, that would naturally be voting for another party wake up and say, Youd better really look at the issues this time.
Youd better really look at your future and figure out whos going to be the guy thats going to make it better for you and your children, and there is only one answer, Mrs. Romney said, giving a harsher pitch than we usually hear from the woman who wants to be the next first lady.

.A Troubling Chant on the Convention Floor
By Jack Hitt
.
An unscripted moment happened late this afternoon that caused the assembled mainstream media to turn away in the hope that it would disappear. As I was standing in line for a sandwich next to an Italian and a Puerto Rican correspondent, a controversy was unfolding on the floor. The RonPaulites, whose furious devotion to a single idea have made them the Ellen Jamesians of the right, were protesting a decision by RNC officials not to seat members of the Maine delegation, which was split between Paul and Romney supporters following rule changes made just prior to the convention. There were energetic shouts of Aye! and Nay! as a Puerto Rican party functionaryZoraida Fonalledas, the chairwoman of the Committee on Permanent Organizationtook her turn at the main-stage lectern. As she began speaking in her accented English, some in the crowd started shouting U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
..
At least half a dozen respected Latino pols are scheduled to talk later on at the convention. I doubt any of them will generate a clip like the one that might be playing wall-to-wall tonight in San Juan and southern Florida.

(3,888 posts)several times over the last few days one of her discourse quirks becomes obvious. everything just occurs to her while contemplating
the moment. "I was sitting backstage listening, I thought, its also very important that the Latino community recognize how important this election is for them,. yesterday she was shown at her new hampshire estate musing about how mitt had ironed his own shirt that morning. as if nothing she is saying has been considered or thought through. she's just so natural!
she couldn't sound more contrived if she tried.
she may sound more genuine than her husband but that's not saying much.

Romney added that the trip was a wonderful chance to peek into a culture and a vibrancy and energy, a passion that I saw form that little island that really what represents the best in America. It is what you give to that country, a vibrancy, a color, a fabric of family and joy that anyone who is near your community recognizes that and feels it coming from you, Romney said.

If they weren't so ignorant, they might realize that promoting social values such as pro-choice, pro-family is a better way to approach some Latinos. (Oye, Latinos aren't one monolithic voting block any more than Asians or Irish people are.) Calling out their supposed bias will only get you, "ve te bambasa mal educada ignorate racista!"
