Arizona Republican: Middle Easterners look Mexican and want to cause harm
By Stephen C. Webster

leading Muslim civil rights group said Wednesday that Republican Party officials in Arizona should repudiate a freshly minted congressional candidate after her Democratic opponent published video of her making several bizarre statements about Middle Easterners.
If you know Middle Easterners, a lot of them, they look Mexican, you know, like a lot of people in South America, tea party favorite Gabriela Gabby Mercer, who legally migrated from Mexico, says in the video (watch below). Dark skin, dark hair, brown eyes. And they mix. They mix in. And those people, their only, their only goal in life is to cause harm to the United States. So, why do we want them here either legally or illegally?
On Monday night, Mercer won the Republican nomination to face Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), and it wasnt even close: She defeated her opponent, Jamie Vasquez, 64.6 percent to 35.4 percent. But even before the primarys results were in, Grijalva republished the video of her remarks, highlighting snippets of an interview she gave Arizona politics publication The Western Free Press last June. The interview went virtually unnoticed too: according to Talking Points Memo, it only registered 215 views before Grijalva publicized it.
They have found prayer rugs, she adds in the video. They have found copies of the Quran. So that tells you this is not just poor illegals who are trying to come to this country and find work. Its bigger than that.

(20,776 posts)While waiting in a check out line, at a supermarket I was once asked, in Scottsdale, Arizone, by an older woman if I was Native American. I told her I was Asian.. she had a blank look of confusion on her face..so I said.. I am Japanese and Korean. Her response was "Oh... You are the first Asian I have ever met". That was a few years ago. I hope I made her day.

Ignorance, sadly, is universal.
Hope you are well!!

(20,776 posts)I think most people on DU welcome information about different cultures. Its been my experience here, on many of the Asian things, I have posted got a fairly positive response. I don't know how many people visit the Asian group, but hope more will come, as its got some pretty cool stuff there.
And I love posting music that people have not heard before.

(9,236 posts)Johnson Shut-ins in Southern Missouri and there were 6 of us- 5 white/1 black. We had ingested some major hallucinogens on the way and when we stopped for gas we were already pretty toastie...
the station was off a two-lane state highway and as it was early on a Friday morning it was deserted. We got out to stretch when after a few moments we heard the screen door bang and turned to see a super skinny white guy in a wife beater tee-shirt, skinny jeans, cowboy boots and black cowboy hat taking long strides straight to Jeff (the black one), grinning ear-to-ear and saying at the top of his voice-
"WELL- I'LL BE GOD DAMNED... IT'S A FUCKIN' NI***R!!!" we all just 'bout shit ourselves with fear...
He held out his hand and continued- "I AIN"T EVER SEEN ONE OF Y'ALL BEFORE!... How you doin'? It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, name of Mack."... Jeff let out one of his beautiful smiles, laughed aloud and shook his hand.
Mack turned out to be the nicest guy in the world. Though several of us had to go clean ourselves up in the bathrooms as a result- we laughed about it the whole weekend!

(20,776 posts)She kept staring at me, so I smiled at her. Then she kind of said, "I hope you don't mind me asking this, but are you Native American?"
I nearly fell over. I don't know why she asked.. but maybe she was just curious.

(8,492 posts)...is Okinawan. She and my son moved to PHX not too long ago and she found a job at a sushi restaurant. Her English is good.
She's had customers ask her why she's here, why she can't learn 'better' English, why doesn't she work somewhere where she doesn't have to speak to customers, etc. Um...she's Japanese and works at a sushi restaurant. But, she has such a positive outlook on things. 'But, I also have customers who want to know EVERYTHING about Okinawa!' She feels bad that she can't take the time to talk to them.
My DIL works her ass off and deals with an impossible schedule. My son works part time and goes to school full-time. She's so proud that she can help pay the bills. And, she makes his dinner every single nite even though she'll be at work when he gets home. She leaves him 'instructions' on how to heat it up and even has his plate and silverware laid out. How many friggin' Arizona women do that for their husbands?
I get to see them tomorrow! It's her 30th birthday!!!
EDIT: Forgot to add...the first time she came to AZ and met a couple of my Nat. Amer. friends...she thought they were Japanese. Now, she's fascinated by all things NA.
