Obama Camp Does Newsreel Video with 'Bygone Era' Ryan
Source: National Journal
Ahead of Rep. Paul Ryans prime-time speech at the convention on Wednesday, the Obama campaign released a black-and-white video, shot in the style of old-time newsreels, alleging that Mitt Romneys running mate is a man with out-of-step views from a bygone era.
The nearly two-minute long video is an upgrade from the usual clip job campaigns typically roll out, complete with a newsreel-style narration, old-time spinning graphics and the action seemingly shot with a hand-cranked camera.
At one point, there is a scene of two men playing cricket as an unidentified speaker talks about tax cuts for the wealthy.
The video hits Ryan on the usual themes: the overhaul of Medicare, cuts to Pell grants, and the forcible rape language in bills Ryan sponsored.

(9,739 posts)Your mention of "...and by Lucky Strike. Remember...LSMFT ..Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco.. " When I was a mean little boy, my friends and I decided that LSMFT meant: "Let's screw. My finger's tired." Ah, the good old days!

(342 posts)Those were snippets of programming during my youth. Where in the world did you find them? Are you an "Old Time Radio" aficionado?

(1,085 posts)Sad to say... I did not "FIND" them..I REMEMBERED THEM!!
I was an avid radio listener as a kid..wanted to be on air...and did just that for sometime... and there are plenty of sites with Old Time Radio programs and commercials..
Thought it just fit this thread..

(342 posts)The first radio I remember as a kid was one like that best described by Bill Cosby on his album "Wonderfulness" or some such title. He said that his family had a tall radio with half a dozen knobs of which only two worked: The off-on and volume knobs. He claimed that the other knobs were there in case you lost one of the necessary two.
My brother and I were too young to read but he memorized the required location for the dial needle in order for us to listen to "Let's Pretend" on Saturday mornings. We could listen to "Tom Mix" (I can still sing the Shredded Ralston commercial) and "The Lone Ranger", and "Straight Arrow" among a bunch of others. Funny, but I can't remember a lot about the past month or so but, like you, I can recall a bunch of commercials from over half a century ago.
Thanks for stirring up this old man's memories.
