Trump seems to question US commitment to defending all NATO allies

By Sophie Tatum, CNN

Washington (CNN) - President Donald Trump seemingly questioned the United States' commitment to defending all NATO allies in an interview that aired Tuesday evening.

At the end of a major international trip with three stops -- a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, a visit to the United Kingdom and the latest NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium -- Trump spoke with Fox News' Tucker Carlson, where he appeared to waver on whether the US would come to the defense of all NATO member countries.

NATO requires all members to help defend fellow member nations that have been attacked, which Carlson noted to Trump.

"Why should my son go to Montenegro to defend it from attack?" Carlson inquired.

Why should he fight to defend Montenegro?

For the same reason the Polish troops fought alongside Americans in Afghanistan or Australians went to Iraq even though neither had the remotest connection to the underlying conflicts.

Why? Because that's WHAT ALLIES DO you little...!
I have a personal rule against ad hominem attacks but this, THIS!, is really pushing it.

If you are sitting right now in Montenegro, or Estonia, and so on, this kind of talk is terrifying. Maybe they are better off just appeasing Russia?

Fools!

a coward. When the shit hit the fan, in a situation I was in years ago and they started peeing themselves AND DIDN'T recover, that's what I see Carlson, his potus, hannity as. What a shitstorm the 'deplorables', the monied class, russian and american, has created in this country.

Trump is just a blimp in our national history. We have our military everywhere, when they need help do we call Russia for support?

Active duty military need to be aware of this traitor.

How horrible, fantastic, incredible it is that we should be digging trenches and trying on gas-masks here because of a quarrel in a far away country between people of whom we know nothing. It seems still more impossible that a quarrel which has already been settled in principle should be the subject of war.

I feel we need another corollary to Godwin's Law, because we've been having to use 'Chamberlain' for Trump and his acolytes a lot these days.

Oh, and it was Montenegro's Prime Minister that Trump pushed past to get the place he wanted in the picture: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-40050926/trump-pushes-past-montenegro-s-pm

Seems like Trump has decided it's a country that can be picked on at will.

Is it just me or does it seem odd that Carlson picks a NATO country with "negro" in it's name as the country he doesn't want his son to defend

Let's face it, Putin is winning

https://www.rferl.org/a/montenegro-us-executive-testifies-in-trial-of-attempted-coup-suspects/29275041.html

The 14 suspects in the so-called "Trial of the Century" in Montenegro are citizens of Russia, Serbia, and Montenegro.

Aleksandar Sindjelic, a key witness in the trial, identified a purported Russian secret-service agent -- Eduard Shishmakov, alias Shirokov -- as a key organizer and financier of the attempted coup in October 2016.

Authorities in Montenegro say Serbian and Russian nationalists plotted to occupy parliament, assassinate then-Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, and install a pro-Russian government to halt Montenegro's bid to join NATO.

The Kremlin has denied claims that "Russian state bodies" were involved in the alleged plot.
