Sen. Elizabeth Warren Joins Calls To Replace ICE: 'This Is Ugly, This Is Wrong.'

Source: Mediaite

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) joined the growing calls to reimagine and replace Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

Speaking at an immigration rally in Boston on Saturday afternoon, Warren told demonstrators that the current immigration situation is “ugly” and “wrong.”

“This is ugly, this is wrong, and this is not the way to run our country,” Warren said. “The president’s deeply immoral actions have made it obvious we need to rebuild our immigration system from top to bottom starting by replacing ICE with something that reflects our morality and values.”

She added: “This moment is a moral crisis for our country.” Warren is one of a growing number of lawmakers calling for ICE to be replaced or reformed, starting with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), who claimed ICE has become a “deportation force.”...

Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) have also spoken out against ICE and called for the agency to be reformed, but not abolished entirely.

as before. There is no accountability now, it is much too big to be run by one person effectively. All the agencies seem to be at odds with other and the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. This is no way to run a federal government.

Break it all down and put it all as it was:

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Federal Emergency Management Agency.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Transportation Security Administration.
United States Coast Guard.
National Protection and Programs Directorate.
United States Secret Service.

A very interesting article that came out last year, from Vanity Fair -

WHY THE SCARIEST NUCLEAR THREAT MAY BE COMING FROM INSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE
BY MICHAEL LEWIS
SEPTEMBER 2017

Donald Drumpf’s secretary of energy, Rick Perry, once campaigned to abolish the $30 billion agency that he now runs, which oversees everything from our nuclear arsenal to the electrical grid. The department’s budget is now on the chopping block. But does anyone in the White House really understand what the Department of Energy actually does? And what a horrible risk it would be to ignore its extraordinary, life-or-death responsibilities?

Absolutely! Yes. Correct. Every one of those agencies needs to be well MANAGED, never abolished. The self-possession of some Democrats makes us all look really, really self-possessed. And stupid. Crowley tried to phone in a campaign from out of state. Steve Kornacki jerxed himself off for ratings for hours about it. Only the stupidest news editors would have stepped over what appeared to be a cat fat between a young, smart woman and a once House speaker and her seconds in command all of whom just happen to be over 80 years old. C'mon, is this a joke? Of course they ran with it.

Now they don't even have to. Whoever let Trump (the media, especially Fox) frame the discussion about Pelosi and Ocampo-Cortez was given the biggest gift he and the GOP could have asked for by the stunningly stupid suggestion by Gillibrand and others that ICE should be abolished. ICE should be effectively managed by a HomeSec department that doesn't put babies and children in cages or internment camps, but paying attention that the few but lethal drug dealers and gang members that have nothing to do with these families don't get in our country isn't a negotiable point. No one any longer gives a shit about Ocampo-Cortez or Pelosi at this point except the same people that think Nixon has any chance against Cuomo in New York. Doubtful Duckworth can even save us from this self inflicted gash to the carotid artery.

Why can't Warren and others stop being polite to a racist asshole that calls her Pocahontas and say,"you're wall is a lame brained idea, and putting babies and kids in cages is sick". Why can't she say the way you are running this country is putting us in serious danger and it's about way more than terrified families from South America. It's ICE agents that raped and sexually molest kids. It's drugging people trying to legally apply for amnesty that's the problem. We never, ever learn.

Here comes Red Wave 2018.

really, the issue of immigration has been around for a long time and is not a brand new issue that party A or party B never failed to deal w/. Repubs are clearly showing that they are afraid to deal w/ this issue by failing to push for a resolution to DACC ... come on now, how long has it been since rump and his mouth rescinded DACC (or tried to)?

DACC was put in place by Obama...did repugs do anything then? No, of course not. Remember, they were (still are) the party of NO. To everything Obama proposed, suggested, whatever, NO.

Remember this, regardless of any logic what so ever, NO. The party of NO.

But, YES to lowest tax rates ever (for 1%ers and/or donors), while leaving 83% of us in the lurch.

Remember this, this party doesn't care what you think, period, unless you have a big fat checking account.

'More Than A Dozen Ice Agents Call For Agency To Be Disbanded. In letter to Kirstjen Nielsen, 19 agents say immigration crackdown makes it difficult to investigate significant national security issues.' The Guardian, June 29, 2018.

Nineteen senior investigators at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) have called for the law enforcement agency, responsible for both national security investigations and deportation of undocumented migrants, to be disbanded.
In a letter to the homeland security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, the 19 agents express concern that Donald Trump’s hardline crackdown on undocumented migrants has made it harder for them to conduct effective investigations into significant national security issues.

The sprawling federal law enforcement agency, which employs more than 20,000 people, is split into two primary divisions: enforcement and removal operations (ERO) focused on deportations, and homeland security investigations (HSI) focused on national security investigations into areas including drugs and arms trafficking.

The 19 investigators, all from the HSI division, wrote that their investigations, “have been perceived as targeting undocumented aliens, instead of the transnational criminal organizations that facilitate cross border crimes impacting our communities and national security”.
The letter continues: “Furthermore, the perception of HSI’s investigative independence is unnecessarily impacted by the political nature of ERO’s civil immigration enforcement.” It adds that certain local jurisdictions in America have refused to work with HSI because of a “perceived linkage” to deportations.

The agents suggest splitting Ice into two separate agencies...The letter is likely to bolster the growing movement in Democratic politics and activist circles to abolish Ice. In recent days a number of high-profile Democrats, including the New York City mayor, Bill de Blasio, and New York senator Kirsten Gillibrand, have called for the agency to be disbanded with a new immigration enforcement program brought in in its place...The calls are unlikely to sway Donald Trump who, since assuming office, has taken extraordinary measures to bolster the agency’s powers. It's a huge agency. Trump, Sessions and the overzealous racist thugs that run ICE are badly managing it. They can't focus on national security, which is a pretty solidly popular issue with everyone. Better he should focus on his stupid wall. But the 2020 fever that Democrats are now experiencing will cause a Red Wave in 2018 if they don't reframe the issue immediately. I've voted for De Blasio and Gillibrand for years. Never again. What is this mad dog in heat to be a 2020 contender thing? I'd sooner vote for Bloomberg, who at least backslapped Giuliani out of the way when the ugly troll tried to appoint himself mayor for life after 9/11.
