On a sweltering hot Saturday afternoon, Londoners gathered in Victoria Park to demand the Trump administration reunite families, and end detention at the U.S.-Mexican border.
London was among more than a dozen Canadian cities protesting in conjunction with activists across the United States.
There are many echoes in relation to my graduation research in terms of the rise of right-wing populism in the United States, and the impact that has on marginalized populations, said March Against Family Separation organizer, Mandy Penney.
We can look to the separation of families in Nazi-occupied Europe as an example of todays immigration policies in the United States, Penney said.

(14,974 posts)I love it that #ShowYourRumpToTrump is a real thing, for Trump's UK visit. I doubt it will amount to too much, but still... I hope it spreads to all places Trump goes: UK, Canada, wherever.

TORONTO From Vancouver to Halifax, crowds of people rallied in cities across Canada on Saturday to protest a policy that separated families who were caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
Although U.S. President Donald Trump recently ordered that families no longer be separated, officials estimate there are still more than 2,000 children who have not been reunited with their loved ones.
When you see something happening that is wrong, you have a moral obligation to do something about it and show that it wont be tolerated, said Alexandra Vaz, one of the organizers of a rally outside the American Consulate in Toronto.
As protesters across Canada chanted, their message was clear: keep families together.s
