Houston mayor doesn't want to 'enable' Trump policy by housing immigrant children

Source: CNN

(CNN)Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Tuesday voiced opposition to a plan to house migrant children separated from their families at the border in a private facility in his city, saying he doesn't want to be an "enabler" of the Trump administration practice.

Turner said city officials first heard last week from immigration activists that the owner of a former warehouse and homeless shelter on the edge of downtown signed a long-term lease with Southwest Key Programs, a nonprofit that runs about 26 immigrant children's shelters across Texas, Arizona and California.

Citing what he described as a moral duty to no longer be silent about the practice of separating families, Turner called on the state, which has to license the facility, the property owner and Southwest Key Programs not to move forward with the plan to house migrant children up to 17 years old in the facility.

"I do not want the city to participate in this process. I do not want our facilities and property owners to participate in this process," Turner said, joined by city, state and religious officials.

...and stand with Mayor Turner on this. The majority inside the city limits of Houston are Hispanic.

And call for Cruz and Cornyn to resign for allowing this to happen because they both refuse to demand trump reverse this policy to permanently hurt children with. Cruz introduced a phony bill for PR for him but its so bad it won't stand a chance, and shouldn't. We need Senators and Reps not scared of trump, and have the courage to demand he reverse his policy at once. Republicans are currently working on changing the rules also from being able to caged them from days to as long as they want to keep them caged. Unbelievable.

maybe it's better to have a facility in a tightly regulated environment where local gov't and media have easy access to report to the public what is happening rather than out of the way, less accessible locations.

Has again shown everyone what a coward looks like. He did his minion duty for trump introducing legislation that may free the children , by giving them more to use against these immigrants. Make no mistake he's catering to trump by doing this now. He knows it has no chance of ever passing, this was to please trump with just what he wanted.
