Baker Cancels National Guard Deployment To Border, Citing 'Inhumane' Treatment Of Children And Famil

Source: WGBH

Governor Charlie Baker is canceling the deployment of Massachusetts National Guard troops to the border in light of recent reports about the Trump Administration’s practice of separating immigrant children from families.

“Governor Baker directed the National Guard not to send any assets or personnel to the Southwest border today because the federal government’s current actions are resulting in the inhumane treatment of children,” said Baker communications director Lizzy Guyton in a statement sent to WGBH News.

State officials announced early in June that Massachusetts National Guard troops would be deployed to the border to support in security operations. One helicopter, aircrew, and military analysts from Massachusetts were set to head to the border at the end of June.

The crew was to “provide aviation reconnaissance to offer an additional tool for observation and tracking of unlawful activity in the region,” according to the Mass National Guard.

Trump approval is at 27% in Massachusetts. It takes real balls to stand against Trump here.

This will help Baker in his re-election in a deep blue, anti-Trump state.

To put this in perspective, Massachusetts is more anti-Trump than West Virginia is pro-Trump.

Else you're simply (and still) holding others to a lower standard than you hold yourself to. Convenient, of course...

The least.

If Baker had spine, he'd send the noble Massachusetts National Guard to go liberate those kids.

Massachusetts is anti-Trump. Only Vermont has a lower approval of Adolf Trump than we do. We're at 27%.

Charlie Baker knows that nay association with the Dictator in the White House is political suicide in this state.

If I had the Democratic nominee in Massachusetts, I would challenge Baker to disavow his Republican affiliation. John Boehner has said that the Republican party in now the Trump party. Charlie should not have it both ways. It's not as if 40% of Republicans are against Trump. Trump has the highest approval rating among Republicans than any president in history. If Baker remains a registered Republican he is associated with Trump.

"I know I'm a Nazi, but I really don't like what Hitler did" didn't sell in Nuremberg and you can't sell that shit to me, here in Massachusetts.

I say let's encourage more standing up to Trump, especially by R's. There's strength in numbers. Once a tipping point happens in the (R) party on this issue, Trump will have to give up on it. Isolated (R) resistance results in Trump vaporizing the dissenters. The Rs have shown themselves to be craven cowards. Let's applaud those who stand up and do the right thing. Doesn't mean we have to vote for the fuckers.

Baker walked a very, very fine line when he sent the guard down there. Yes, he sent a tiny contingent and they were nowhere near the border.

He deserves a little credit for cancelling.

is actually much more important. It means more Republicans will probably start to "get it". Standing up to Trump needs to become more of the norm and not the aberration. That's what I think.

Purportedly because one district was redrawn to resemble a salamander. Gerry-Mander.

Although according to this article https://www.boston.com/news/politics/2018/04/08/massachusetts-gerrymandering
the situation has improved significantly in recent years.

So either R's are now outright cheating, or Dem's are doing a shitty job of GOTV.
