VA GOP Candidate Responds To Crowd Chanting 'Lock Her Up': 'Might Just Happen'

A Trump-aligned Republican who won the GOP Senate primary in Virginia on Tuesday will face Hillary Clintons former running-mate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) in a race thats bound to resemble key aspects of both Clinton and President Donald Trumps campaign rhetoric. And the crowds could take similar form, too.
During Corey Stewarts victory rally on Tuesday evening, the candidate referred to his opponent as Hillary Clintons running-mate. The mere mention of the former Democratic Party nominee fueled the crowd to begin chanting lock her up! a frequent incantation at Trumps most rowdy campaign rallies.
That might just happen, by the way, Stewart responded, according to The Washington Post. And Timmy, too. Oh, were gonna have a lot of fun between now and November, folks.
The audience recited other Trump campaign slogans on Tuesday evening, like Trump crowd favorite Build the wall!

we underestimate Americans' capacity for misogyny, racism and xenophobia at our own risk.

(2,434 posts)crowds inside Joel Osteen's "church". These are the same people. They do not want to think for themselves. They want someone to tell them what to do and what to think. They are lazy. They want to blame others for their deficiencies. They like sound bytes and slogans that are easy to shout. They only have courage in numbers. Do not expect them to engage intellectually on a one-on-one basis. They will end up shouting at you and calling you names.

(11,949 posts)But I know several democrats who believe. They just do not skip over all the actual teachings of Christ.
And in the south the Christian church has traditionally been the center of the African American community and down here they are the base of the party.
Have a nice evening.

(55,445 posts)It is weird to hear that chant two years later, and to think a senator will have the authority to "lock someone up"...
But hey... Back in 2010 our local GOP congressional candidate swore up and down he was going to get "Obamacare declared unconstitutional" in his speeches and commercials... Yeah, like he's going to have supreme court powers or something.
The mob didn't care -- They lapped it up anyway and the dude won...

(2,396 posts)He belongs to the trump cult and only and I mean only gets his info from Fox News.
He makes my head explode but my husband is more patient with him. Recently an 80 yr old lady in a dive bar got through to him a little bit about trump. My husband was so happy he bought her a beer
I gave up trying to get him to check other sources since he doesn't have the capacity. For example, he insisted that President Harry Truman was killed on Mt St Helens. (The old man who wouldn't leave the mountain was named Harry Truman.) His family made him google it and he still couldn't differentiate between the two Harry Trumans. Finally someone showed him and he conceded the point. He's not dumb, just stupid
So it's hopeless to expect him to competently research anything.
The good thing is that he doesn't actually vote!

. . .
In March 2017, Stewart admitted that he and his campaign had been editing his Wikipedia page since at least May 2014 to remove unflattering information and add positive spin, through at least two registered accounts.[34] On the same day, during a Reddit AMA, Stewart called his GOP primary opponent Ed Gillespie a cuckservative, agreed with a questioner that asked if Bill Clinton was a rapist, and wrote CONFIRMED! to a questioner who asked if Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe "is a cuck."[35] Virginia GOP chairman John Whitbeck rebuked the remarks, calling some of Stewart's language "racist," and noted that the term "cuckservative" is used by white nationalists.[35]
In May 2017, while speaking at Temple Rodef Shalom in Fairfax County, Stewart blamed progressives in the United States for an uptick in anti-Semitic incidents throughout the United States. To the surprise of the Jewish audience, Stewart claimed that Today most of the anti-Semitic bigotry is not coming from the right. Its coming from the left. We have to face it. He then went on to list several accusations of anti-Semitism and sexism lobbed at Democrats.[36]
