Michigan Conservatives Ask Court To Allow Them To Keep Gerrymandering

Despite a resounding court defeat last week, a Michigan business group is asking the state’s top court to block a sweeping gerrymandering reform initiative from getting on the November ballot.

And thanks in part to the business group’s largesse in judicial races, there’s reason to think it could yet succeed in killing the reform measure.

Citizens Protecting Michigan’s Constitution (CPMC), which is backed by the state Chamber of Commerce, on Monday filed a request with the state Supreme Court for immediate consideration of its complaint.

The move comes days after the state’s Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 that the initiative meets the legal requirements to get on the ballot, and that the CPMC complaint was “without merit.”

The reform measure would take map-drawing responsibilities for congressional and state legislative districts away from the state legislature, which for twenty years has been controlled by Republicans. That has consistently allowed the GOP, which opposes the reform initiative, to win many more seats than its vote share deserves. For instance, in 2012, the GOP won just 45.6 percent of the vote in congressional races, but came away with 9 out of 4 seats.

When in reality he has pushed NOT ONE BILL to help American workers long time, cheating the poor & middle class when it comes to healthcare & his multiple promises to proved universal healthcare cheaper & better than Obamacare, how TRUMP & GOP have passed theses massive tax cuts for themselves, the very wealthy & corporations with no stipulations that these so-Calle “Job Creators” should spend the money saved here in American on expanded US operations &/or raises in real wages & benefits for current employees as well as hiring knew people who can work for a living wage!

...If our candidates like some are already appear to be doing decide to make their campaigns all about impeaching Trump & don’t stay far away from “ELECT ME I WILL IMPEACH TRUMP” & ignore what matters most to poor and working class whites then we the Democrats will NOT win back either house of Congress!! We Democrats are at a huge disadvantage as we have been for the past 10-15+yrs as the multiple billion dollar Conservative Media Industry has grown into the powerhouse it is with not only the ability to use disgustingly racist religiously bigoted yet sophisticated propaganda to fully 100% control 10s of millions of poor & middle class whites in terms of how they think & vote but they also create confusion in another large chunk of 10s of million voting Americans! This latter group will decide who picks winners & losers & they’re not in the mood for impeachment talk as a campaign theme!

I know I What I’ve said here will probably piss a lot of people off but it is 100%! If you haven’t figured out by now that the American public allows Republicans to get away with wrecking the country over & over & over and then gives little to no credit all when it comes to someone with the integrity & pragmatism like President Obama who not only worked with what he had to save the not only the US economy in 2009 but perhaps even Capitalism itself, overhauled a health care system not to win votes but because it was the humane thing to do, achieved national security wins no other GOP POTUS has done, brokered extremely important nuclear treaty with Iran & working years to get our allies & Russia & China to sign on to that had very strict verifications for the next 10-15yrs, worked for years on a 12 nation free trade treaty (TPP) that was not perfect but the USA would’ve lead it & had enormous influence & it would’ve left China isolated economically & given us a very powerful tool of leverage to use to get China to stop doing a lot of the unfair trade practices they’re know for! And I could go on & on! However, since he President Obama is a Democrat, doesn’t spend the majority of his time in office dedicated to beating his chest screaming look at my brilliance & the fact he is an African American he has yet to get 10% of the praise he would certainly have been showered with had he been a Republican named George W. Bush & he would literally be a FUCKING GOD if his name was TRUMP!!

...It sickens me that America seems to think loud mouth arrogant yet ignorant IDIOTS are what makes better leaders!

14. People must come to the realization that the greatest threat to our nation is the Republician Party.

This is not hyperbole, but the cold hard fact of fifty years of propaganda that has split the nation is to two camps. It has been almost entirely the work of the radical conservatives who have attacked the very essence of our nation as envisioned by the founders, that out diversity we could be one. They wrote at length in the Federalist Papers how there could be strongly held opinions, but that they must be resolved through mutual respect.

The Republcians chose to totally abandon this key element and have endeavored through vicious propaganda to cast the Democrats and anyone who opposed them as un-American, immoral enemies who must be destroyed. Just consider the vast contrast between what they had to say when Obama suggested that under the right circumstances he would meet with Kim Jong Un. They attacked him calling him a traitor and the most vile names 24/7 on their propaganda networks. Contrast that with the reception of Trump's meeting with Kim Jong Un in which by objective standards he gave away much and received nothing. It is being hailed as the victory of the century and he is being honored as if he had singlehanded assured us victory. Yes, I hope that something of value can be achieved, but I am not buying the propaganda until I see concrete results.

PA has 800,000 MORE Democratic registered voters than Republican yet with gerrymandering, the Congressional contingent ended up being 13 GOP - 5 Dem.

Now that both the PA state Supreme Court and the SCOTUS have allowed the redrawing of PA's districts, we should hopefully alter that to get to a minimum of 11 GOP - 7 Dem and can potentially reach 8 GOP - 10 Dem if we have excellent GOTV.
