ALBANY, Ga. (AP) Leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention are expelling a Georgia church that was accused of racial discrimination.
The denomination's media office tweeted Monday that members of the executive committee had voted to withdraw fellowship from Raleigh White Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia.
The tweet says the church is being disassociated over "clear evidence" of racism. The church's local association severed ties earlier this year.
A phone message left at the church wasn't returned immediately.

(37,648 posts)in the Baptist Church and have been for many years. There are more minorities than whites in some of the age groups, and all minorities and mixed races combined are the majority over whites in the Baptist Church.
So the Baptist Church had better be accepting of minorities! Or it would struggle to survive.
I wonder what the makeup of the Southern Conference board is. It'd be interesting to know that, given that so many of the church members are minorities.

Only reason the Trumpanzees at the SBC booted this church was that it was so open about it's racism that it became impossible to deny.

I mean, golly. What was the first clue? What could possibly make one begin to suspect the Raleigh White Baptist Church might be too racist for the SBC?

(37,648 posts)That makes more sense than just inserting "Raleigh" and "White" in the name of a church in Albany, GA.
Rev Raleigh White was involved w/the Baptist Church around 1900.
Another poster informed me of this, when I wondered about the name. And why "Raleigh" would be in the name, when the church isn't in Raleigh.

(62,444 posts)Other than denominations that have saints, i wouldnt have guessed too many churches are named after people.

(37,648 posts)But I was looking at the name Raleigh White and wondering why it would have "Raleigh" in the name, since the church is not in Raleigh or even in NC. "Raleigh White" seemed like a name to me, possibly.
As a youth, I did attend a "Simpson Methodist Church." It was located on Hwy 14, so "Simpson" wasn't the name of the street. I never thought about why "Simpson," when I was a kid. Maybe it was a person's name? Maybe it used to be on a street named Simpson? Dunno.

Finally the big cahuna finally severed ties. Now the Raleigh White Baptist is just .... Raleigh White? Not Baptist anymore.
A lot of Af Americans are Baptist. Can't imagine how the Raleigh White Baptist thought it would get away with barring the black church from using its facilities.
I really can't believe they put "White" in the name itself????? WTH???? At first I thought maybe it was the name of someone...a Mr. Raleigh White. Because the church isn't in Raleigh. Why is it called Raleigh? But I didn't find a Raleigh White in a Goog search.

(37,648 posts)I looked him up and found some sort of reference. How important he was, I don't know. But there was a Rev. Raleigh White, who was involved w/the Baptist Church in about 1896 or so.
That makes more sense. "Raleigh White" sounded like a name to me, since the church isn't in Raleigh.
Mystery solved.

I'd love to have everyone of them take a 23&Me test!
