Family of Stoneman Douglas student advocate David Hogg 'swatted' at home

Source: WPLG Local 10 Miami

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was "swatted" Tuesday morning, prompting deputies to respond to their Parkland home.

A call came into the Broward Sheriff's Office claiming a hostage situation at the home.

Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to find there was no hostage situation and the call was a prank.

Hogg was not home at the time of the incident and is currently in Washington with his mother to accept the RFK Human Rights award.

Some gun-humping MAGA scumbag was hoping the cops would kill David Hogg.

Oh, and it wasn't a "prank" it was a felony.

It should be treated as more than that when people already died in these kind of incidents.

The criminal who sent the cops to Hogg’s residence were probably hoping for the same outcome.

It is incredibly easy to fake the caller ID information of a phone call.

I don’t know if the phone company has a way of finding out the originating location of a faked call. They probably do, but that means they would have to keep records of every call made in the event that the cops serve them a warrant for a specific one.

they have a way to trace the call and will likely investigate this as the serious crime it is.

People have died in swatting pranks before and the callers have been prosecuted for it.

Here are 3 assholes who were charged in a similar incident recently where someone died.

and I wouldn't, I would use a courtesy phone at a hotel I wasn't registered at, or a pay phone if I knew where there still was one. I do recall seeing a pay phone a couple of months ago, it's probably still there.

If the call came from a burner phone, a pay phone or a computer, if the Swatter knows what they're doing, the chance of a trace is unlikely.

Given that swatting tends to occur more by younger perps, I'm inclined to believe the call would come through a computer on an internet phone app through a proxy, followed by a soft wipe of the relevant data and IP from the dialing computer. If that's the case, I'd be somewhat surprised if the cops find them. Not impossible, but hard.

They will find this gun--humper, as these guys are never all that bright. I just worry about David and his family. He has a younger sister. But I do know that they have had the home security system up-graded.

It stuns me how much these yahoos are threatened by a teen age boy who is still finishing up his school year, trying to put the images of the slaughter behind him and deal with all of the emotions of what transpired there. All of the kids there are getting counseling. It's just so raw. And with the Sante Fe shooting in TX, this was like ripping the wounds open all over again. I feel sorry for all of these children. They were not planning on being thrust into the bright lights of critical media. The PFSD is setting in already,

I hope, really hope, his dad still has friends at the FBI who will help find the people who did this. I'm sure they can work out some way of having jurisdiction to investigate. I bet something in the call crossed state lines and made it okay for the Feds to get involved.

Considering how high profile David is right now, you'd think that the police would be swinging by occasionally to make sure that no one is surveilling the home or otherwise plotting harm or vandalism. His home should have been well known.
This reminds me of the realization I came to some years ago that if the FBI had spent as much time protecting Martin Luther King as they did trying to investigate and destroy him, we'd be a better country right now.
