Sessions: Migrants shouldn't bring children across border if they don't want to be separated

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 06/05/18 10:23 AM EDT

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday defended the Trump administration's policy of separating migrant children from their families, arguing that the measure promotes border security and that the children are "well taken care of."

In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Sessions criticized those who "recklessly and improperly" cross the border with children in tow.

"If people don’t want to be separated from their children, they should not bring them with them. We’ve got to get this message out," Sessions said.

"You’re not given immunity," he continued. "You have to, you will be prosecuted if you bring, if you come illegally. And if you bring children, you’ll still be prosecuted."

So families fleeing persecution should leave their children behind to be at the mercy of their oppressors?

I guess we know how Sessions would have responded to Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust.

"If people don't want to be separated from their children, they should not bring them with them."

What a disgrace.

isn't telling you is that many of these children came with parent(s) who were seeking asylum. They did not enter the U.S. illegally. When an asylum seeker presents him/herself at the border (s)he is interviewed to sort of if the Immigration People believe (s)he has a credible claim for asylum. If the decision is negative the asylum seeker and party are returned across the border. If the decision is affirmative they are then scheduled for an asylum hearing before an Immigration Court. Until a decision is reached on the asylum claim they are in no sense of the word "illegal immigrants". What we are talking about here are the children of many of these asylum seekers who have broken no law but who are now being stripped away from their parents for the sole purpose of intimidating would be asylum seekers to not come here.

Our finest democratic traditions being shit-canned by the organge shitgibbon and his cadre of sheet-wearing flying monkeys.

Just because something is legal doesn't meant it's right.

The issue is not whether the U.S. can prosecute people who cross the border illegally, it's whether it's moral to separate children from their mother on the pretext of "deterrence." For people who claim to be Christians, these guys seem more addicted to the Hammurabi's Code's "an eye for an eye" than Christ's message of love and forgiveness: "Suffer the little children to come unto me."

Many of the people trying to bring their children to the US are refugees. They and their children are in danger of being killed if they stayed where they were. They can't leave their children back home - that puts the children in even more danger.

Most of the current wave of people presented themselves a the border facilities, have filled out the proper forms but are now being terrorized by our government by having their children taken away from them - with no procedures for the parents to contact their kids

But the Republicans of today don't give a shit.

Suffer the children. The party of family values strikes (out) again

The GOP does not even fake being compassionate anymore.

He enjoys being punitive to people he has absolutely no regard for and his new job provides him the means to carry out all those fantasies he has entertained over the years.
