Trump allies hustle to prevent Mueller subpoena
Source: Politico
President Donald Trumps closest associates are ramping up their message to special counsel Robert Mueller: Do not subpoena the president to testify.
A series of developments over the weekend demonstrated the Trump teams deepening resolve to maintain control over if not block altogether the presidents meeting with the prosecutor looking into Russias interference in the 2016 election.
On Sunday, top Trump allies publicly warned Mueller against a subpoena and indicated that Trump would tolerate only a tightly choreographed interview.

(15,012 posts)Do you think Mueller is going to be moved by f*cking ass-clowns like Giuliani and Sekulow? As opposed to... I don't know... A duty to the rule of law? Constitutional experts? A sense of justice? Competent litigators?
Either politico's editors are f*cking morons or Giuliani and Sekulow are... Or wait,... why not both?!!!

(19,204 posts)can go pound rock salt and howl at the moon. Trump can be subpoenaed, and he can be indicted on obstruction of justice charges.
Trump and his ridiculous "allies" do not get to set the conditions of Trump's testimony. Who do these assholes think they are?
For someone "completely innocent" of any wrongdoing, for someone who has "nothing to hide", Trump certainly acts like a very guilty man!

(3,259 posts)Whenever the topic of invasive law enforcement tactics comes up, the Republicans' constant refrain is "If you're not guilty of anything you have nothing to fear."
Judging by the desperation tactics and spinning that's going on, Trump apparently has a lot to fear. Ruh roh, Raggy!

(49,045 posts)Or just let them stew and not request an interview. Just go silent or return calls from his team to say "We're still considering it but have nothing to discuss at this time".
If he did announce "no interview", the implication would be that they have enough and Trump can read it in the reports or have the executive summaries of the reports read to him. In other words, "see you in the court of the Senate or Judicial Court".
His supporters would do a 180 degree turn in an instant and demand an "interview", so that he can "defend himself" or "get his story told". They would demand it be on the record and videoed for replay that night, of course tightly controlled as ever.
Mueller could at some point not long before submitting his reports just say the President of the US is a citizen like any other before the law and is requested to appear like any citizen before the grand jury for an unspecified length of time (clear a day) and with no lawyer just like any citizen, but will not be subpoenaed. Take it or leave it. His team would say no interview and Mueller would say, "fine, here's the report and we are unsealing the indictments except for (say) 5 that will remained sealed for an unspecified period of time".
