In Gaza, grief and pain for slain 'angel of mercy' paramedic

Khan Younis, Gaza Strip - Too worn out to shed more tears, Sabreen al-Najjar recalls the last time she saw her daughter alive.
"She stood up and smiled at me, saying she was heading out to the protest," the 43-year-old told Al Jazeera from her home in Khuza'a, southern Gaza Strip.
That protest was the 10th Friday demonstration held by Palestinians since March 30 near the fence with Israel dubbed the Great March of Return. Sabreen's daughter, 21-year-old Razan, had been in all of them, volunteering as a paramedic to help those shot by Israeli snipers.
"In a blink of an eye she was out of door. I ran to the balcony to watch her outside but she had already made her way to the end of the street," Sabreen said on Saturday, surrounded by grieving relatives, friends and female patients her daughter had once treated.

(35,356 posts)It happened recently.
And while I've read 5 different new stories from different sources, from just those 5 I glean that she was shot either in the chest or the stomach, she was 20 or 21, and she was either more than 100 m from the fence, 100 m from the fence, or closer than 100 m from the fence (so close that her uncle warned her not to get close to the fence).
Either there are at least 5 of her, or the story's details, and therefore the story itself, are still in flux.
At some point the narrative will settle down. And for all I know, as in other instances, more information will surface that will cause a reinterpretation of who she was, what she was doing, and what happened. I've noticed that often when I reach a conclusion quickly I fail to notice later information and revise my conclusion, so for me, at least, it's best to wait.

You can justify anything.

"The International Committee of the Red Cross is sending two teams of war surgeons to Gaza and setting up a surgical unit in the enclaves main hospital to treat heavy casualties from clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians.
Since protests on the Gaza-Israel border began on March 30, Israeli troops have killed 115 Palestinians and wounded more than 13,000 people, including 3,600 by live ammunition, Robert Mardini, ICRCs director for the Near and Middle East, said.
This week also saw the most intense flare-up of hostilities between Palestinian militants and Israel since the 2014 Gaza war.
The recent demonstrations and violence that took place along the Gaza border since the end of March have triggered a health crisis of unprecedented magnitude in this part of the world, Mardini told a news conference on Thursday in Geneva.
The ICRC will set up a 50-bed surgical unit at al-Shifa hospital, Gazas largest."
