Trump slams 'the resistance' in weekly address

Source: The Hill

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 06/02/18 11:28 AM EDT

President Trump tore into the so-called "resistance" of Democrats opposed to his agenda on Saturday, accusing them of "resisting the will of the American voter."

In his weekly address, Trump blamed Democrats for slow-walking many of his nominees through the confirmation process, saying that Senate Democrats had "shamelessly obstructed" hundreds of qualified picks.

"From day one, Senate Democrats have shamelessly obstructed, stalled, and filibustered the confirmations of hundreds of talented men and women who are eager to come to Washington, D.C., to make a difference," he said. "They want to serve our country."

Trump also blasted the party's opposition to his hardline demands on border security and immigration. He said that Democrats were withholding support for his policies because the party is "afraid it’s going to make me and the Republicans look good."

The clear "will of the American voter" was that Trump not be president.

I don't think the Dems have a problem with approving qualified appointees; it's when he wants to make the WH doctor the head of the VA -- a position that he is clearly unqualified for -- that the Dems put on the brakes. That's their role as minority party.

Same when he appoints a lawyer who has never tried a case to be a U.S. District judge.

If he thinks the Dems are resisting his agenda now, wait until we win one or both houses of congress. He's going to get carpal tunnel syndrome from all the tweeting he'll be doing during his "executive time."

Q And President Putin today was accusing the Obama administration of spreading false information about the President-elect in an attempt to delegitimize his presidency and said that those in this administration who did that were worse than prostitutes. Does the Obama administration have any comment on that?

MR. EARNEST: That’s an interesting metaphor that he chose there. Listen, as I’ve said on a number of occasions, the men and women of the United States intelligence community are patriots. They are experts in their field. They do their work not because of the glory associated with it -- because most of the time they have to keep their names secret. They don’t do it for the big pay -- because in many situations they could make a whole lot more money in the private sector. They do their important work to keep our country safe because they love this country, and they have served us incredibly well in keeping us safe.

They have served President Obama enormously well. And this is not the first time that the intelligence community has had some uncomfortable things to say about Russia. These are the kinds of the things that I’m sure the Russians would rather not hear. But ultimately -- and this is something that the next administration is going to have to decide -- there’s a pretty stark divide here.

The weekly address began with FDR and his radio "fireside chats." This is from Wikipedia:

Ronald Reagan revived the practice of delivering a weekly Saturday radio broadcast in 1982, and his successors have all continued the practice.

A common complaint about the President's Weekly Radio Address is that only a few radio stations (mainly public radio and all-news radio outlets, a format very rare outside of major metropolitan areas) cover the very short broadcasts, they are not advertised publicly, and very few Americans are able to find address coverage on their local radio dial; Saturday mornings usually have brokered or paid programming carried on most commercial radio stations.[8]

Along with the rule of law, all our institutions , especially the DOJ because he's being investigated , and everything he's doing is to undermine our government and any accountability for anything, or corrupt all area's of our government for himself. He'll go after opposition just like putin, by criminalizing anyone who stands up to him, or by personally hurting them any way he can. He wants his own DOTJ where he is the judge, jury, and executioner, while the republican party do nothing to stop it. Pretty obvious he represents putin, not us, or this country. Just putin and himself.

28. More Selective Populism from the sitting fascist...
Sat Jun 2, 2018, 01:43 PM
Jun 2018
13. Ur-Fascism is based upon a selective populism, a qualitative populism, one might say. In a democracy, the citizens have individual rights, but the citizens in their entirety have a political impact only from a quantitative point of view—one follows the decisions of the majority. For Ur-Fascism, however, individuals as individuals have no rights, and the People is conceived as a quality, a monolithic entity expressing the Common Will. Since no large quantity of human beings can have a common will, the Leader pretends to be their interpreter. Having lost their power of delegation, citizens do not act; they are only called on to play the role of the People. Thus the People is only a theatrical fiction. To have a good instance of qualitative populism we no longer need the Piazza Venezia in Rome or the Nuremberg Stadium. There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People.

Because of its qualitative populism Ur-Fascism must be against “rotten” parliamentary governments. One of the first sentences uttered by Mussolini in the Italian parliament was “I could have transformed this deaf and gloomy place into a bivouac for my maniples”—“maniples” being a subdivision of the traditional Roman legion. As a matter of fact, he immediately found better housing for his maniples, but a little later he liquidated the parliament. Wherever a politician casts doubt on the legitimacy of a parliament because it no longer represents the Voice of the People, we can smell Ur-Fascism.

More voters would like to watch impeachment hearings for Mr Trump than would vote for him in the next presidential election, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey found.
