Eastman rides a progressive wave to the Democratic nomination in the 2nd District [of NE]
Source: Omaha World-Herald
Kara Eastman pulled off a surprise primary victory Tuesday as Omaha-area Democrats tapped the nonprofit executive to take on incumbent Republican Rep. Don Bacon.
Eastman and former Rep. Brad Ashford traded off the lead through Tuesday night. But her lead became insurmountable by the final unofficial results.
I am probably very visibly humbled and honored to accept the Democratic nomination, Eastman said, clearly feeling the emotion of the moment.
She said its appropriate this came after Mothers Day because she chose to run after watching her mother battle cancer.

Surprised that Omaha Steve wasn't the first to post this. Wow, Brad Ashford is the first "primaried" incumbent congressional Democrat I've heard happen in the 2018 cycle.

(1 post)I sincerely hope that she will cook Bacon this November. Progressives usually have a hard time getting elected in this very conservative state. However, Ashford lost by only 1% last time, and with Trumps poor standing with women and minorities she just might be able to pull this off.
I am also hoping that Independents who voted for Trump will have buyers remorse and vote for her.

I went to high school with a former Republican congressman from this district (Lee Terry). Good friend, but I am glad to see Democrats more competitive in the district.
