Pompeo Says Kim Jong Un 'Shares The Objectives Of The American People'
Source: Talking Points Memo

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, fresh from a trip to North Korea and a meeting with ruler Kim Jong-un, claimed Sunday that Kim shares the United States objectives.
When I said earlier this week that I think Chairman Kim shares the objectives of the American people, I am convinced of that, Pompeo told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace. Now the task is for President Trump and he to meet to validate the process by which this would go forward, to set out those markers so that we can negotiate this outcome.
Pompeo said the United States would offer security assurances to Kim and sanctions relief in exchange for the denuclearization of North Korea.
The secretary of states remarks echoed those he made on Friday, shortly after returning from North Korea with three freed American prisoners, and having met with Kim.

In his mind that would negate Obama's Nobel Prize, just because he'd have won his more recently. In Trump's fruit fly-sized brain, everything President Obama ever did while in office must be eradicated. I sincerely believe that's his only real purpose for being "president".

(50,559 posts)that the United States' objective in Korea is to reunite the peninsula under a communist government. That IS the objective of North Korea, and has been since July 27, 1953 - the date the Korean Armistice was signed.
If Trump causes that to happen, Supermax prison is too good for him, it's too good for his evil family, and it's too good for anyone who has ever worked for Donald Trump.

(17,931 posts)It's simply not going to happen. There are no assurances we can give that would satisfy NK, other than removing all of our military personnel and assets from the most heavily militarized border in the history of the planet. That is not going to happen. So, there is absolutely nothing to be gained by this. By the US anyway. Lots to be gained by NK. Feels like Munich all over again.

(430 posts)There was an old adage during the Paris Peace Talks that Henry was trying to negotiate a settlement with undisclosed items. The gist was that he was going to give up something so the North Vietnamese would agree to a ceasefire or possibly peace. Rumor (among many) was that Nixon, through Henry, was giving Hanoi Rhode Island!
I wonder what the idiot in charge today is giving Kim to make him look like a "noble" prize? California? New York? Free room service at the dwindling Trump Hotels? All the borscht he can eat? Or something worse for America?

Why Russia holds the key to resolving the North Korea crisis
21 August 2017 By Isabel Hilton
Link: https://www.newstatesman.com/world/2017/08/why-russia-holds-key-resolving-north-korea-crisis
In July this year, China and Russia put forward a proposal that both sides should make concessions. North Korea would suspend its nuclear and its missile testing in return for a suspension of South Koreas annual military exercises with the United States. Buried in the joint statement was the assertion that third parties should not negatively affect the interests of other countries.
Both China and Russia aim to reduce US influence in Asia, an ambition greatly aided to date by Trumps withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement, conceived as a vehicle of US influence; his treatment of long-standing US allies; and his decision to withdraw the US from the Paris agreement on climate change.
This perspective questions the validity of Trump's bluster and bullshit on his administration's negotiating skills. Maybe Trump did indeed make that call to Putin: "Please, Daddy, help me!"....

(4,035 posts)Since when does the leader of a totalitarian communist regime whos been off his rocker for years, whos made inflammatory comments on equal or greater par than the alleged leader of the good old U S of A suddenly have a come to Jesus moment and become our dear friend. Scrap it all????
Out of nowhere, Kim Jong Un has decided to scrap the whole nuclear, confrontational ball game. It makes no sense whatsoever. Was it his meeting with Chinese leaders that scared the living shit out of him, or was it divine inspiration?
To make things even more absurd, were going to send the Buffoon in Chief into a room with a guy who miraculously abandoned in totality, his core principles of dominance and destruction overnight. I cant imagine anything that stinks more than this proposed meeting, as nothing makes any sense.
We know so little, yet we should be allowed to know so much more. Personally, the whole sordid affair is freightening.
