$3 gas coming to a station near you

Concerns that President Donald Trump is about to impose new sanctions on Iran have sent oil prices climbing, and gas prices are coming along for the ride.
The national average price is up to $2.81 a gallon according to AAA, an increase of 3 cents in the last week, and 15 cents in the last month. This is the highest prices have been since 2014.
And more price hikes are on the horizon. The Oil Price Information Service, which tracks prices for AAA, expects the national average to rise to about $3 a gallon sometime this month. The good news is that prices are likely to creep lower once they reach that peak.
"Most of this recent increase has to do with speculation that the Trump administration will take a hard line with Iran," said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for OPIS. The president has until May 12 to decide whether the US will stay in a deal with Iran meant to curb its nuclear program, or pull out of the agreement and once again impose sanctions on the country. ....................................................

(3,473 posts)It also wasn't mentioned why it took so long to affect the price. It was just a quick blame Obama comment with no explanation.

(6,931 posts)It will take another couple of hikes and we'll be at 3.00 per gallon. Gas was 2.15 here the day Trump took office. Any of those knuckle dragging dip shits thinking their biggggg tax cut will be used for anything other than gas can guess again.

(45,450 posts)almost as if they were paid off by the Saudis. hmm... Saudis like high oil prices.
The high oil prices also help Venezuela and Russia, who need higher prices for their oil industries to turn a profit.
And then there's the American fracking in North Dakota, which is fine place to work outdoors in the summer. They might increase capacity.
GOPers have been jonesing for some oil pipelines, and will look for any excuse.

(2,191 posts)The station near me is $3.59 for regular right now. Last year, or maybe the year before, gas stations with "real" signs (as opposed to digital ones) were out of "4" numbers because we were up over $4!

(24,764 posts)We already reached $3/gallon gas.
When Obama was Prez, gas was about $2/gallon--to try to break the russkies; now it's up to $3 because the Pumpkin Punkass had to let our enemies fix the prices.

(12,659 posts)Of course, we have different blends depending on the season here in California, and that's what tends to make our gas more expensive. But the seasonal gas price is offset by not having smog days where no one can go outside for any length of time without a respirator, an increase in work productivity, and a drop in the incidence of asthma and COPD amongst the young and the elderly.
Not to mention being able to see clearly more than a mile in front of you. And your plants and livestock are healthier, which is critical in a heavy agriculture state.
Smog also used to be the cause of many horrific accidents on the freeway.
The price is also rising because his EPA is trying to get rid of regulations to increase fuel efficiency in cars and trucks which will affect refinery blending and output. So commodity prices will also be affected that in way.

(7,153 posts)10 miles away from the Beltway, the cash-only no-frills stations are selling it at 2.61-2.69.
Along major commuter routes, it's running about 2.75-2.90.
A couple of "get it here or else" spots have peeked above 3.00.
I haven't been into DC for a while, but I suspect the Watergate gas station is above 3 dollars too.
