Hartford Re-Entry Center To Open At City Hall This Summer
Source: Hartford Courant
Hartfords welcome center for newly released prisoners, a project that social service leaders have been edging toward for years, will open this summer in a city hall annex.
A cluster of offices at the back of the historic building will be transformed into a hub that connects ex-cons with housing, substance abuse programs and job training. It will also steer them to groups providing clothing and food.
Plans for the center were announced in January without a location or a timetable attached. Organizers are now aiming for an early July opening.
We know that as soon as folks are released, those first few days are critical, said Sue Gunderman, Hartfords interim director of re-entry services. And if they dont have a place to live, if they dont have identification or a job and no family support, theyre more likely to re-offend.

I don't know why we don't have more programs like this for prisoners re-entering society and the workforce.
Hopefully this will drastically reduce recidivism
