MANCHESTER, N.H. (Reuters) - Enthusiasm for the Democratic Party is waning among young voters - so-called millennials - as its candidates head into the crucial midterm congressional elections, according to the Reuters/Ipsos national opinion poll.
The online survey of more than 16,000 registered voters ages 18 to 34 shows their support for Democrats over Republicans for Congress slipped by about 9 percentage points over the past two years, to 46 percent overall. And they increasingly say the Republican Party is a better steward of the economy.
Although nearly two of three young voters polled said they do not like Republican President Donald Trump, their distaste for him does not necessarily extend to all Republicans or translate directly into votes for Democratic congressional candidates.
..............................................
Two years ago, young white people favored Democrats over Republicans for Congress by a margin of 47 to 33 percent; that gap vanished by this year, with 39 percent supporting each party.
.....................................
Millennials are almost evenly split this year over the question of which party has a better plan for the economy, with 34 percent picking the Democrats and 32 percent choosing Republicans. Thats a shift from two years ago, when they said Democrats had the better plan by a 12-point margin. .........................

(4,492 posts)They're not the ones yelling at the talking heads on cable news. Many don't even have cable at all and just rely on streaming services like Netflix. I skip threads like Rachel said XYZ and all of the Joy Reid threads because I just don't care about cable news anymore.
I'm on the X/millennial cusp and rarely watch TV. About the only time I'll watch cable news is when I'm at a hotel. With my work schedule, most of the time my news is consumed via headlines (sent as alerts to my phone) instead of the whole story. I get headlines from CNN, Huffington Post, and Buzzfeed News.

(30,613 posts)Headlines are usually written by an editor who is closer to the corporate parent than is the journalist, and they'll usually try to spin the story to the right. If you read the content, it often contradicts the headline. If you don't read the content, you're blissfully soaking up lies.

(4,492 posts)BUt I sometimes work 15 hour days and when I finally do get in bed and get to look at the apps on my tablet, I'm ready to collapse.
I work as a campaign staffer. The news I pay most attention to is the news that pertains to my race and district. If it doesn't, it is tabled until the bedtime reading.

(18,124 posts)the young people I know to the woman/man are NOT souring on the Democratic Party. Hey folks, read this bullshit and laugh. trump has poisoned the water, food, air with his particular filth. He is depraved, deplorable, NOT everyman. Democrat, Republican. It's all we have at this time.
People with just one iota of conscience, common sense know what they have to choose to ward off this evil overtaking this country. Worse than has ever been, including wars, segregation and open lynching, Depression 2 is coming. Are you ready? People I know are stocking up.
As far as the slippage, this will have to be touted, economically, racially, democratically one of the, if not THE, most important elections in the history of this democratic-republic and to all voting classes of this society.

(1,009 posts)ONLINE survey - random? This can be manipulated. Millenials are the last ones to support the republican party at this point.

(25,111 posts)Dem lost by less than 4% in a red district won by the true fifth, t-rump, over 20%. Or the other specials elections where Dems won or either came very close to winning in a red district.
The fix is in to steal, cheat, distort any means necessary.
Now the GOPers are trying to take "free" press away. Freedom away, Democracy away.
Vote.

(92,325 posts)also do not see a breakdown in this poll according to race and gender, and the distribution of those who did this online poll

For an online poll I would like to see the distribution of those involved in this online poll within each state.
I am skeptical of one poll unless other polls corroborate it
