Trump defends Ronny Jackson, calls for Tester resignation

President Trump said Saturday that Democratic Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) should resign because there is no proof of several key allegations his staff compiled against White House physician Navy Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson.
Trump tweeted a defense of his former Veterans' Affairs nominee early Saturday morning after the Secret Service and the White House issued statements finding no evidence of two alleged drunken incidents included in a damning report that helped sink Jackson's nomination earlier this week.

According to a report that Tester's staff compiled based on claims made by more than 20 people familiar with Jackson's leadership at the White House Medical Unit, in two separate incidents Jackson was alleged to have "wrecked" a government vehicle after becoming intoxicated at a Secret Service going-away party and drunkenly disturbed former President Barack Obama during an overseas trip in 2015.
The White House on Friday said an investigation did not uncover any evidence that Jackson ever drunkenly wrecked a government vehicle and the Secret Service on Thursday denied that it intervened to prevent Jackson from disturbing Obama in 2015.

(43,295 posts)You don't investigate claims people made and find nothing. You at least find that people made claims, whether you agree with or believe them or corroborate them, that is a deeper angle, but you don't accuse them of making things up, unless you are really good at that fabrication yourself.

It scares me to think that in 20 years there will be Trump apologists that have clout beyond the Contrail advocates anf Flat Earthers.

(26,291 posts)The first hand evidence against Jackson seems pretty abundant and credible. He might be a very talented physician, but that doesn't make him a good human being. One of the best doctors I ever encountered was someone I found to be personally repugnant, but he knew his craft. When sober and/or not acting otherwise inappropriate, he was an amazing healer.
Unfortunately, his vices overcoming his virtues resulted in his downfall.

That's about it. The news accounts of reporters who claimed to have read it saw no allegations of anything else improper involving drugs, including alcohol. And that was in 2012.

(26,291 posts)Even sans the drug/auto crash allegations, his behavior as outline by the IG Report would, IMHO, disqualify him for leading the VA. Well, that and his absolute and COMPLETE lack of experience and expertise in leading such a massive agency.
My gut tells me that he assured trump* he would support privatizing the VA. This whole mess has thrown a spanner into trump*'s goal of further enriching himself and his wealthy supporters.

When people look at that, the truth will become clear to all that look for the truth.

(1,699 posts)Of someone who revealed actual allegations, true or false, is pretty funny. If over 2,500 lies and counting have not required resignation nothing should. Nice try.

(10,055 posts)Where did the info come from that got reported in the media and repeated by Tester and others?
Look, the guy was unqualified for many obvious reasons, there was no reason to make shit up if you did not want him confirmed. Ronny obviously should know the true state of Trumps health and he obviously found a reason to gloss over what he found...Trump is obviously not in the best health of all men his age, nor will he live to 200. Something else is/was going on. Will Ronny now be above reproach and continue to be Trump's doctor making public statements about how godlike Trump is?

(11,885 posts)Is a waste of time. Let him under oath say he hasn't told the Secret Service to lie on this. Mueller could , along with anyone else eventually as the House and Senate flip , and they take charge of real investigations. He's now calling all those service people liars that claimed otherwise, and for good reasons. Expecting the Secret Service to lie is criminal , especially from a sitting President. Dr Ronny has to go, period from all his own doings that WERE illegal, and dangerous. If you're a friend, or lie for trump he'll take up for you for and abuse his powers , or illegally use his powers to promote lies with, like he's now doing with the Secret Service. Another complete opposite of his claims he's for law and order, when he practices the opposite. Ronny is so flawed he's a danger, and passing out opioid's is beyond troubling a WH doctor would do that, ever. Trump's lies will come out once again to prove he lied. He should also be fired.

(523 posts)Trump spent years, and ignored mountains of evidence, insisting that Obama wasn't born in this country, didn't go to college, etc.
So why not insist that Trump resign?

(14,494 posts)Was just looking at his Twitter page, and the right-wing mob is attacking him viciously in the comments. Repugs are attacking him for presenting allegations rather than facts, like a bunch of idiots. Tester himself said the accusations would need to be further investigated. He sated on his Twitter page: "These arent my accusations, these are accusations that have come from active and retired military personnel.
Four Repugs are in the primary and I'm betting at tRump's insistence, the big boys will pour tons of money into this one. There's also a Green Party candidate that will be on the ballot.
I think tRump spews out this bullshit (via Tweets composed by his minders) to trigger his band of right-wing bloggers, and he's relying on them to try and dig up and spread dirt on Sen. Tester.
I'll be watching this one and making contributions as we can. From what I've read, Tester represents his state really well.
