Manchin becomes second Dem to back Pompeo
Source: The Hill
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said on Monday that he will vote for CIA Director Mike Pompeo to be the next secretary of State, making him the second Democrat to support Pompeo's nomination.
"After meeting with Mike Pompeo, discussing his foreign policy perspectives, & considering his distinguished time as CIA Director & his exemplary career in public service, I will vote to confirm Mike Pompeo to be our next Secretary of State," Manchin said in a tweet.
Pompeo likely already had the votes to be confirmed by the full Senate. With Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) expected to oppose him, Pompeo needed one Democratic vote to win a simple majority. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) became the first Democrat, on Thursday, to say she would vote for him, securing Pompeo a 50th vote.

(1,896 posts)is that they'll make it all up when they vote for the Senate Majority Leader.
That's the payoff for having a "bad" Democrat in a place where realistically we weren't going to get any other kind.

(37,648 posts)At least the blue dog Democrat votes Democratic most of the time. Any Repub would vote Republican almost 100% of the time, if not 100% full stop.
Still...wish they wouldn't rubber stamp these nominees.
