Saudi Arabia to show 'Black Panther' to mark cinema opening

Source: AP

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia is to hold a private screening on Wednesday of the Hollywood blockbuster "Black Panther" to herald the launch of movie theaters in the kingdom that are expected to open to the public as early as next month.

Authorities are planning an invitation-only screening of the movie in a concert hall converted into a cinema complex in the capital, Riyadh. The screening, to be attended by both men and women, will be followed by a rush to build movie theaters in major cities.

The movie was voiced in English.

When the POW asked what year it was, Rambo said "1985".

The French and Arabic subtitles said "1943".

That is why we are stuck with them instead of traditional movies. They do very well worldwide and are very profitable for the studios.

Possible reason from the OP link -

Movies screened in Saudi cinemas will be subject to approval by government censors, as is the case in other Arab countries. Scenes of violence are not cut, but scenes involving nudity, sex or even kissing often do get axed.

Since "Black Panther" is an action movie (Comic Super Hero), there is no "sex or nudity" and I think maybe one or two scenes of a kiss. The rest of it is pretty much some dialog and action action action. It's also rated PG-13 so no "f-bombs" in it.

Anything that makes the society freer and more diverse. Anything that counteracts Wahhabi nonsense...good.

Hope native Saudi movies also set off.
