Lawsuit Filed Against Ex-Voter Fraud Commissioner For Reckless Claims

Source: Talking Points Memo

J. Christian Adams, who sat on President Trump’s now-defunct voter fraud commission, is being sued over reports his group issued accusing hundreds of Virginians of having illegally registered to vote .

The lawsuit was filed Thursday against Adams and his group, the Public Interest Legal Foundation, in federal court in Virginia. It targets the voter fraud allegations the group made in reports called “Alien Invasion in Virginia” and “Alien Invasion II,” which claimed that hundreds of non-citizens had likely committed felonies by registering to vote.

The lawsuit is being brought by four people who say they were falsely mislabeled as non-citizens who illegally registered to vote in the reports, despited the fact that they are all citizens. The League of United Latin American Citizens is also a plaintiff in the lawsuit, which is being spearheaded by the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, a voting rights group.

I am the long-time secretary of the 3-member Electoral Board in my rural VA county.

Here's what Adams did.
1. He obtained via FOIA records of jury service as well as voter registration documents.
2. Some people marked on either voter registration applications, or, jury duty forms that they were not citizens.
3. He then checked the voter rolls and found a few of these people registered to vote.
4. He then issued the results of his "analysis," claiming that thousands of non-citizens were voting.

Voter registrars statewide combed their records where we found:
1. Some people had checked the wrong box.
2. Some people were not citizens when they completed the paperwork and were not eligible to vote. Later, they became citizens -- Adams had disregarded the later information.

A Republican legislator in the VA General Assembly -- at Adams' urging -- introduced a bill requiring registrars to coordinate with jury selection officials. Registrars and Electoral Boards opposed this useless requirement, Governor Northam vetoed it.

These assholes never quit.

Even the Republican member of our Electoral Board was pissed at this extra workload for us and our General Registrar.
