Trump says U.S. to decide on response to 'atrocious' Syria chemical attack in 24 to 48 hours

President Trump said Monday that his administration would be making “major decisions” about its response to a suspected chemical attack in Syria within the next 24 to 48 hours, decrying the action as “atrocious” and “horrible.”

“We are very concerned when a thing like that can happen,” Trump said at the outset of a Cabinet meeting while reporters were present. “This is about humanity, and it can’t be allowed to happen.”

U.S. officials said Sunday that they were weighing options to strike Syrian government targets after at least 40 people were killed in the opposition-held town of Douma, roughly 10 miles from the Syrian capital.

Trump said Sunday on Twitter that there would be a “big price to pay” for the attack. His comments on Monday were his first publicly spoken remarks on the subject. “If it’s the Russians, if it’s Syria, if it’s Iran, if it’s all of them together, we’ll figure it out,” Trump said.

Trump will figure nothing out. He'll protect Putin and drop some bombs in out of way places. Then he'll claim big winning...so much winning,.

is not qualified to decide how to react to a barista who made you a bad cup of joe, let alone this.

He is not qualified to do anything, and has proven that without oligarch russian money, he would be homeless.

His mixed signals, not even leaving doubt as to the US protection of civilians or at least the potential check to Assad, allowed Assad and Putin the free hand.

Putin loves poison gas, he just used nerve agents in London. We need to hold Cheeto accountable. If Hillary said “let other people handle Syria” and there was a poison gas attack, there would be committee hearings forever.

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Fox News Channel announced on Monday that it would decide what Donald J. Trump’s Syria response will be in the next forty-eight hours.

At a press conference at the network’s headquarters, Sean Hannity, Judge Jeanine Pirro, and the “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy said that, as the people who have been entrusted with the decision of whether to use military force, they were not taking their responsibility lightly.

“The U.S. military is the mightiest force in all the world,” Hannity said. “However we decide that President Trump will use that force in Syria, we promise that it will be a decision he will be proud of.”

Pirro said that she and her colleagues were taking “full advantage of the entire Fox News brain trust” to craft Trump’s Syria response. “The American people should sleep well at night knowing that we are keeping Tucker Carlson in the loop,” she said.

Ending the press conference on an urgent note, Doocy spoke directly to President Trump. “Mr. President, we’ll have a decision for you in the next forty-eight hours,” he said. “Don’t change the channel.”
