Comment by Republican adviser to Ohio Gov. John Kasich sets off howls of racism

Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A top adviser to Ohio Gov. John Kasich has come under fire for a statement critics say was racist and aimed at suppressing the vote of African-Americans.

The comments from Doug Preisse, the Franklin County Republican chairman, were yet another salvo in the ongoing battle between Ohio Democrats and Republicans over early voting hours. Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted last week issued a directive that excludes weekend voting, which Democrats say was politically motivated.

Preisse told the Columbus Dispatch in a story published Sunday: "I guess I really actually feel we shouldn't contort the voting process to accommodate the urban -- read African-American -- voter turnout machine."

Kasich, who is preparing to deliver a speech at next week's Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday declined The Plain Dealer's request for an interview.

Well now, this is turning out to be a hell of a year for the GOP, now ain't it?

First, that cretin in Missouri opens his mouth, then this fool up in Ohio, and who knows, maybe a hurricane heading right for Tampa during the GOP convention?

Keep talking, Pubbies.......you guys just keep digging yourself deeper.

for the Cleveland Plain Dealer!, which unlike the Columbus Dispatch, will report the truth, not suppress it. I've e-mailed Joe Hallett, (jhallett@dispatch.com), the Dispatch chief of the editorial board, many times, questioning lack of reporting stories that every other major paper in Ohio runs. I have never heard back. I will never buy that rag again. This newspaper was completely silent on congressional "candidate" Sam Wurtzelburg's immigrant murder rant, they have NOT adequately called out the Kasich admin., Sec. State office, Atny. Gen. office, & the grossly inept Josh Mandel's office on lack of performance & ethics, and are not doing the job of using their clout regarding records requests, making it more difficult for the good citizens of Ohio to retrieve same. My home state has become a freaking laughingstock, an embarrassment of the highest order, where teabilly idiots want to contribute to Zimmerman's defense fund, where Mr. & Mrs. Crow are just as active as Mizzou, Ariz., or Fla. They wear it as a badge of (dis)honor, they are proud of their lies, hate, fear...proud...proud...proud. We now have a clear choice that can no longer be denied, no matter who the hell you are, and no matter what color your skin may be...The party of might, whats' right, those who see the true light, OR...The party of fright, the "christian" lily white, those who want to "take it all back".

It's now largely confined to evangelical fanatics, anti-government kooks, and other assorted nutburgers.

Logically, one would think they would make some effort to expand; obviously, logic is not a function of the GOP anymore. My father was a Republican, but more in the mold of folks like Thomas Dewey and Dwight Eisenhower. My God, Nixon today would practically be a quasi-Marxist by the standards of what the GOP has turned into now. I doubt my father would even recognize the Tea Party/GOP. The 21st Century GOP has transformed into a massive John Birch Society, and if you remember, old Bill Buckley did his utmost to exile those folks from the ranks of the conservative movement.

I guess this is the JBS's revenge.

so I wouldn't doubt that it has changed, as fluid as things are in Ohio.

The Federal government should mandate that if there is a federal election
(i.e. Presidential election) then early voting should start from Day 1 till
election day.

If there are state level elections (i.e. governor, senator, ...) and no presidential
election then the SoS can set up the rules based on state constitution.

If the elections are local level elections, then the County ROV should make
the rules based on the state constitution.

Do they think this is winning them new voters somehow? Have they all been time transported back to the 1950's and have decided that birth control is for sluts, only some rapes are "legitimate" , abortion should never occur no matter what and that anyone not white and middle class in income shouldn't get any extra help with their Constitutionally protected right to vote? I just don't get it. The Republican platform isn't Romney's platform? WTF does that even mean? This double talk is going to take it's toll on voters who might otherwise vote R this November and so I think we are in good shape to take back many seats in Congress and hold the presidency. I hope the same happens in the various states where governors and state legislators are up for reelection.

Of course, they never really went away.........they just sort of political obscurity over the years. However, the Tea Party Movement has been utterly co-opted (or created, depending on your perspective) by the Birchers, in particular, the Koch Brothers, themselves the sons of Fred C. Koch who was one of the founding members of the JBS back in 1958.

In my view, the whole thing ties back to the John Birch Society; as I posted upthread, it's their revenge on the conservative movement which largely marginalized and ignored them for so many years.

Which is how I still refer to them, were created out of the loss of the election to a black man. IMO, this entire movement is steeped in racism and why the republicans who were not extreme and certainly outnumbered those who are didn't put a stop to this from the outset is a mystery to me. That's the part I don't understand. They allowed their party to be co-opted by imbeciles and have done nothing about it. The good ones up and quit, and I cite Olympia Snow of Maine as an example. She said she can't take it anymore. I wish she had changed parties instead of quitting. That would have hit them where they live.

by some, including acknowledgment of the issue on the far right, that demographics start trending away from the right starting between 2016-2020. Therefore, the right, in particular the more racist sociopolitical leaders among them, realize that this is (for them) indeed, "now or never", as you put it.

On a slight tangent, I do foresee the strong possibility of a neo-secessionist movement rising up in the wake of an Obama re-election. That will certainly make life interesting......and potentially dangerous. Should such a movement arise, it would have to be nipped in the bud very quickly, before it catches fire; I see said movement arising (in particular) in the Deep South, the former Confederate States of America.

For them, the "Lost Cause" was never truly "lost".
