Portland police shoot, kill suspect inside homeless shelter

Source: Associated Press

Updated 6:23 pm, Sunday, April 8, 2018

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland's police chief cautioned the public Sunday to reserve judgment after a video purportedly showing several officers fatally firing on a carjacking suspect at a homeless shelter made its way online.

Chief Danielle Outlaw said in a statement that she was aware of a video taken of the incident and posted on the Internet, and asked the public to "please be reminded that deadly force investigations are extremely complex and take time."

While responding to a report of a crash Saturday night, Portland officers learned that a car involved had been stolen in a carjacking earlier in the day, said police spokesman Sgt. Chris Burley.

Police found the man they believed to be the driver inside the nearby Cityteam Ministries Portland Shelter in southeast Portland. Officers received reports the man might be armed, Burley said. But he said it has not yet been determined if he had a weapon at the time of the shooting, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. Police did not say what prompted officers to shoot.

News reports are saying that the suspect was shirtless. The person in this picture is not shirtless.

Not to mention you refer to this as an execution and you have no information that any such thing happened, the person in you pic did not get killed and you can't see the hands of the person in your pic anyway.

On Sunday morning, three witnesses told The Oregonian that the man killed by police had rushed into the shelter shirtless during an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, waving a knife and cutting himself. "It was horrific," the man who took the video told The Oregonian. "We were all scared for our lives."

The videographer, Morgan Pickering, told The Oregonian he felt the shooting was justified. "I applaud their actions," he said. "They actually saved lives."

Spreading false information is not something that helps these situations.

The witnesses said the meeting was in progress when the suspect came through the door, shirtless.

One witness said a shelter employee gave the man a jacket.
Shortly after, police arrived.

What does your picture prove? I do not see an execution or a firing squad. You cannot see the mans hands and the witnesses say that the man was armed with a knife. That includes a witness who stated that the officers did the right thing.

How, based on that information, do you conclude this was a death by a firing squad?

Clearly I have stated that I have "unquestioning worship of police".

No point in having discussions with someone clearly as one sided and closed minded as I am.

Thank you so much for your time.

the executioners in blue "to get tougher". And I'm sure all minorities, that includes the mentally ill, as this 'suspect' seems, haven't seen shit yet...this next 4 years, possible generation or two will see the degrading of civil and social standing of all american citizens especially the AA citizen, man, woman and child. No doubt.
