Last edited Sat Apr 7, 2018, 08:38 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: NBC

A fire erupted at Trump Tower in Midtown on Saturday evening, according to the FDNY.

The blaze broke out on the 50th floor of the tower shortly before 6 p.m., the FDNY said.

The severity of the fire wasn't immediately known, but the FDNY said it had no reports of injuries.

At least five fire trucks were seen responding to the fire on Fifth Avenue.

I guess they all have huge egos, but tenants are also part of the problem. People equate a high floor number with being even MORE elite. So they give them what they want.
Ridiculous.

Turns out, the guy in Trump Tower whose apartment that just got torched is an ex-con money launderer of gambling money for the Russian mob, Helly Nahmad. Typical Trump clientele. You can't make this shit up!

But it blurs the line between what was proven (gambling) and what was suspected (money laundering).

Russians weren't his only clientele for the gambling. But at the time and place, they were the ostentatious-consumption folk. Like him. (Even though they probably disliked him because he was Jewish.)

Oh, who am I kidding? I'd love to see them dragged through court. It would be fitting that there was a fatality in Trump's building from something totally preventable by competent landlord.

It does not appear to have been a code violation – it was grandfathered in. But there were no sprinklers in the upper floors of Trump Tower.

From the NBCLosangeles article:

"Some fire-safety advocates pushed for a requirement that older apartment buildings be retrofitted with sprinklers when New York City passed a law requiring them in new residential highrises in 1999, but officials in the administration of then-mayor Rudy Giuliani said that would be too expensive."
