Gov. Malloy Nominates Richard Robinson As Next Chief Justice
Source: Hartford Courant
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy nominated Justice Richard A. Robinson to be the next chief justice of the state Supreme Court in the wake of the state Senates rejection of Malloys previous pick to lead the high court.
The nomination became necessary after the Senate voted 19-16 to reject Justice Andrew McDonald in an emotional battle to be the courts next leader.
After leading the fight to reject McDonald, Senate Republican leader Len Fasano of North Haven recently said that he would accept Robinson as the next chief justice showing that the upcoming confirmation fight could be much smoother than the bitter McDonald battle that included accusations and denials of homophobia because McDonald is gay.
Robinson is the third longest-serving member of the high court behind McDonald and veteran justice Richard N. Palmer. Robinson would succeed Chase Rogers, who retired and stepped down from the high court.
