The nations top military official scolded a group of veterans for criticizing President Obama in a new online documentary, saying in an interview that he is disappointed by their partisan comments.
Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey said the anti-Obama comments are not useful when asked about the documentary during an interview with Fox News while flying back to the U.S. from the Middle East.
One of the things that marks us as a profession in a democracy in our form of democracy thats most important is that we remain apolitical, Dempsey said. Thats how we maintain our bond of trust with the American people. The American people dont want us to be another special interest group.
In Dishonorable Disclosures, the documentary released online last week, a group of former special operations and intelligence members slam Obama for taking credit for the death of Osama bin Laden.

(45 posts)I'm the first one to thank military for their service. Once out of the military...they can voice their opinions freely. It doens't make them anti American...or anti anything else...that is of course UNLESS what they're saying is a complete fabrication. Then it becomes political bull shit....
President Obama gave PLENTY of credit to the seal team....the MEDIA did most of the "giving' credit to Obama...
It's one thing to have an opinion...it's completely another to just make shit up....

While I think the faux documentary by the ex-servicemen is wrong-headed and filled with mis-information, I think Gen Dempsey should be working to ensure the current military is more "apolitical" instead of going after (now) civilians who speak their mind.
It would go a long way towards stopping future problems if they'd just address what's going on now in the services...

(7,403 posts)Is not that they are now civilians but that they stake their entire credibility on their prior service from several years ago. I am thankful for their service as I hope you are for mine but I would never make a claim today based on my military service and neither should these civilians. While one of them once served in Navy Seal Team Six and knew their methods and procedures at that time, he has no specific insider knowledge on this particular operation -- not even leaks from current members -- so his prior service is meaningless when it comes to what he wrote about the bin Laden operation. In fact, nearly everything written has been debunked as false and what hasn't been most likely will once it has been fully checked out. So, yes, let them speak their mind but not let them shame those still in the military or intelligence service with false charges of corruption for leaks or worse. A hatchet job is a hatchet job and hiding behind prior military service is a disservice to those in the service and that is basically what Gen. Dempsey was saying.

(1,354 posts)If they are ex-SEAL Team Six members moaning about the President's "gloating", aren't they themselves violoating SEAL and military protocool by making themselves known? Team Six is suppose to be the most secret of all.
