An attorney for President Trump's longtime lawyer Michael Cohen says his counterpart in the Stormy Daniels lawsuit is a "PR machine" for his client, the adult film star who is suing the president to come forward with details of their alleged affair.

David Schwartz, the attorney for Cohen, said Daniels's lawyer Michael Avenatti has done well publicizing the adult film star's allegations in a seemingly non-stop series of cable news interviews, drawing attention to a story Schwartz says is entirely "nonsensical."

"I give this guy [Avenatti] credit for one thing ... he's made the best out of this story. This guy is a PR machine. And he's only in it for himself," Schwartz told radio host John Catsimatidis on AM 970 New York.

Avenatti is handling the defamation lawsuit from Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, against Cohen for his hand in offering a $130,000 payment to the actress in exchange for signing a nondisclosure agreement just 11 days before the 2016 election.

Cohen and Schwartz are just pissed that someone is besting them at their own game.

Mr. Avenatti has played Trump's team for the fools that they are. Look at how he's exposed their lousy legal documents! Look at how he's trolled Cohen! Look at how skillfully he's kept this story alive.

Best of all, look how he's silenced Trump! There hasn't been a single comment from him about Stormy Daniels. Why is that? What is the secret that she has that's shut Trump down?

Actors of every stripe (and others) pursue publicity because it's how they stay relevant. In this case, Ms. Daniels has taken on the biggest and loudest mouth in our society and she's playing the game far better than Trump's team.

As far as Schwartz's pathetic comment that Mr. Avenatti is "only in it for himself," tell me why Schwartz is involved. Are his ethical and moral motivations so pure and beneficent that they are without question? Bullshit. He's in this for his own aggrandizement, too, not to mention the money. If that's the best argument he's got, they're in trouble.

20. He's trying to get the media not to notice some very significant things:

Avenatti is a good lawyer who reviewed the legal circumstances of his client's situation and rightly concluded she has a good case.

His client, Cohen proved he has not been a good lawyer in this case and who messed up big time in the contract and what he has said to the media.

This lawyer stupidly maintained to the media that Trump knew nothing about this contract or the money paid - which basically seals Avenatti's legal argument that there is no contract - so he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer either. And still too legally ignorant to realize how stupid he has been. He needs to shut up for his client's best interests (I hope he keeps yakking).

If Stormy's case had no merits, it would not be getting nearly as much media attention. They'd be silenced with a cease & desist order or some legal action and heading behind closed doors for arbitration - or something like that. It is in significant part because they have a good legal position that Avenatti and Stormy can go before the media to present their side of this story. This lawyer doesn't want to admit that but it is the way that it is.
