Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt paid $50 a night to live in a condo co-owned by the wife of a lobbyist with clients regulated by the agency.
..................................

Over the course of roughly six months, Pruitt paid $6,100 for the room. Those payments, however, came on sporadic dates and in different amounts, unlike traditional monthly rent payments, according to Bloomberg.

A lease agreement reviewed by Bloomberg showed that Pruitt was charged $50 a night "based on days of actual occupancy."

The living arrangement was not reviewed by the EPA in advance, and the agency had to seek documentation from the building's owners to prove that Pruitt did, in fact, pay for the room, Bloomberg reported.

“I don’t conclude that this is a prohibited gift at all. It was a routine business transaction and permissible even if from a personal friend,” Fugh said........................................

That's a hell of a deal...especially when you consider that on Trivago the lowest price per night at an area hotel is $92!!!

$50/night = $350/wk = $1400/mo

You could probably rent a decent furnished studio apartment for 1400 in most areas, but I'm guessing the property values there are maxed.

At least they were charging him rent. That amount of income is enough to report on taxes and therefore verify he stayed at the home of a person whom he then went to bat for politically.

and are those rates consistent with finding a similar arrangement without a lobbyist-friend owner?

This is just so convoluted in motives, finances, influence

This just reeks CORRUPTION

Motel Six in DC area at $60.00 per night so the use of a condo for $50.00 per night sounds like a really good deal. Oh Yeah!!!!! Nothin' to see here folks, just move along quietly.

That, even if rented at market values, would be a conflict of interest and a potential bribe.

Given that it was at rates below even roach motels, and used a days occupied lease, it clearly was a sweetheart deal. And this was a for a luxury condo in a high rent area no doubt.
