CNN poll: Most Americans think Trump will lose in 2020

Source: CNN

A majority of Americans think President Donald Trump will lose his re-election bid in 2020, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, similar numbers to those facing former President Barack Obama at this point in his first term ahead of his re-election victory.

Fifty-four percent of Americans say they expect Trump to lose his campaign for re-election, the same number who said Obama would lose the 2012 election at this point in his first term. Only 40% of Americans think Trump will win in 2020, similar to the 44% who said the same for Obama.

Republicans overwhelmingly say they expect Trump to win re-election to the White House in 2020 (79% feel that way), while Democrats nearly unanimously say they expect him to lose (87% say so). A majority of independents also expect him to lose. Republicans now are more optimistic about Trump's re-election prospects than Democrats were about Obama (just 69% of Democrats said they expected Obama to win at this point in 2010).

Former President Bill Clinton faced even worse expectations in 1995, when only a quarter of Americans expected him to win his second term following deep losses for his party in the 1994 midterm elections. Trump filed re-election paperwork with federal election officials on Inauguration Day in 2017. He formally announced his re-election bid in February.

Running for President was the worst decision he ever made. It will, finally, bring down not only the Trumps but Putin. I grieve, though, for what we're losing while it takes justice to run its course.

My only hope is that we emerge stronger.

Get the PAC funds for himself to use as he pleases, and may run , but will not run to win, just grift more money from others, and make others give by abuse of power . If he were to win, he'd put ivanke in place to run everything, while he plays golf daily.

We must focus on beating the repubs in November. That is the only way we can slow/stop the insane repub/trump agenda. I don't want to hear about left leaners attacking our side. We seriously don't have time for division in our own ranks. Get electoral wins. Then work to change the party., If you don't get it, it can only mean one thing. You are a trump supporter.

Not only will Trump run in 2020 - he has an excellent chance of winning! If 2016 taught us anything, it’s that there’s a weird phenomenon with Trump voters - they’ll refuse to admit that they support him, but vote for him anyways. They may even adamantly deny voting for him, but they do.

Trump is very good at creating a narrative. He built this entire counterculture mythology around himself in 2016, where a vote for him was giving a “middle finger” to the government. He will no doubt have many other tricks up his sleeve in 2020, and should be taken seriously. As Democrats, we should assume that we’re starting from a position of weakness, and go from there.

Trump will keep his base of hard core supporters and those who identify as Republican will also support him. He'll get his 45-47% of the vote.

as an opponent. It's a bad idea to underestimate him and assume it's going to be easy to beat him. I actually predicted Trump would win the republican nomination for the presidency when he first originally declared his intentions to run for president. I made this prediction simply based on how Trump is great at making his opponents look weak. People will almost always pick a stronger candidate over a candidate that's perceived as weak even if the weak person is more qualified for the job. Trump was able to make all his challengers look weak with the insults he would throw at them. He called Rubio little Marco and called Cruz lying Cruz. When he ran against Hillary he called her Crooked Hillary and unfortunately that label stuck to Hillary and made her weaker.

Trump is great at also at selling people a bunch of bs lies that they love to here. He's the equivalent to that cheating spouse that you see your friend take back a bunch of times despite being lied to straight to their face for the hundredth time simply because they want to believe the relationship can work. I feel this is how his supporters view him.

In a nutshell Trump is a bully and a great con artist. It's not going to be easy to beat him in an election. He won't go out easily without a fight. I'm not looking forward to the debates with him because I feel the dem challenger has more to lose than gain by debating him. I have no clue how you beat this guy. The dems going to have to find a way counter Trump's bullying and the false promises he makes. They are basically going to be battling Trump on two fronts. It's going to be difficult and nobody should approach this with the mentality that it's going to be an easy walk in the park.
