White House opposes DACA fix in exchange for border wall funding

Source: The Hill

BY JONATHAN EASLEY - 03/14/18 04:05 PM EDT

The White House said Wednesday it does not support a deal that would provide temporary relief for so-called “Dreamers” in exchange for three years of funding for a border wall, throwing cold water on a proposal being floated on Capitol Hill.

The Washington Post reported earlier in the day that Republican officials were discussing a plan that would extend the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for three years in exchange for three years of border wall funding, or a so-called “three for three” plan.

White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah said the administration does not support that effort but that the president could be open to a long-term fix if it were included in a spending bill.

“The White House opposes a so-called three-for-three deal,” Shah said. The White House has never stopped negotiating an immigration package. “If there were a deal cut and that could be added to the omnibus we would welcome that. But right now what was reported as a three-for-three deal is not something the White House would support.”

The Republicans aren't serious about working with us on immigration at all. This deal was unfortunately a deal that gave up much more for DACA supporters and dreamers in the long run. I hate to concede anything that builds a permanent border around this country. I understand the importance of the immediate fix for the dreamers but there has to be another way to deal this issue.

at any one time patrolling The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. That is 1 1/2 to 2 million sq. miles per ship. I have yet to hear of a journalist asking Trump if he knew that Mexicans own boats.

"White House officials have told key Republican leaders on Capitol Hill that President Trump is open to cutting a deal in an upcoming spending bill to protect young immigrants from deportation in exchange for border wall funding, according to four GOP officials briefed on the talks. "
Now the proposal supposedly came from "Capitol Hill". In point of fact neither houses nor hills speak even though it appears that the White House MAY speak with forked tongue....

Someone needs to clarify their source. Here's a link to the Post reporting:
