NRCC spokesman: GOP not conceding in PA special election

Source: Axios

Shannon Vavra 1 hour ago

Matt Gorman, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, told NBC News that the party is "absolutely not conceding" to Democrat Conor Lamb in the special election in Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district. Gorman added, "We are waiting for provisional ballots on Friday. And we are not ruling out a recount or other legal actions.”

Between the lines: Regardless of the ultimate victor, last night’s election results were a tough pill to swallow for the GOP. The district voted for Trump by 20 points, and Lamb managed to close that gap against Republican Rick Saccone.

Potential legal challenges to benefit the GOP, per NBC News’ Alex Moe: “Reports of miscalibrations of voting machines in Allegheny Co; Report GOP was kicked out of room counting absentee ballots in Allegheny Co for 90mins; Reports of mistakes on PA SOS website”

Yes, but: Even though he's not conceding, Saccone’s camp has told NBC News that he plans to run again in 2018 in the soon-to-be-redistricted 14th congressional district, which will be a more GOP-leaning district.

Not conceding only demonstrates what sore losers republicans are. We knew that anyway.

Go fuck off.

However, the stalling just gives the GOP that much more time to figure out how to come up with the votes they need to "win".

They're prepared to fight- lawyers, guns and money- and we're there with inexperienced local players who are in the situation for the first time and they "find" votes and lose our votes.
If we're smart, we'd spend lots on being prepared for close elections, rather than spending against our own candidates like we did in Texas.

OK, they got Supreme Court collusion in that one ( and months later, a war that's still going on today from Bush/Cheney).
In the 2004 presidential election, researchers revealed serious security flaws in voting machines.
Those machine are still around and can easily be compromised.
Coupled that with a gerrymandering of districts, voter list purges, other suppressions- long lines, threats and harassment, Republican or conservative ties of several leading executives in the companies providing the machines.
They have people making careers out of stealing elections.
None of this is to say that Lamb and his people aren't smart, talented and did anything other than a magnificent thing taking that seat away from them. But they've got the money, time and suits to challenge this and will attempt to stall it.
While we've got the numbers, they're very good at misinformation and legal means to reverse outcomes.

without massive voter turnout on any election these days - it just gives the Repugs a second opportunity to steal the election.

Again - we must strive to make the 2018 midterms historic. We need to make that election go down in U.S. history that it has the largest voter turnout than any previous election in the U.S.

That sends a message to Trump and the Repugs that we won't tolerate their treasonous activities anymore and we won't let you steal or elections.

GOTV!!!!! We have about 8 months to mount a campaign to make the 2018 Midterms Historic.

counting absentee ballots. In Allegheny County all absentee ballots are sent to the correct polling place, and counted there. Only Poll Watchers are allowed in polling places. That is an "official" Poll Watcher with correct paper work.

Was an Allegheny County Judge of Elections for 10 years.

The GOP has asked that all voting machines be impounded and the counties have agreed. They are also claiming their atty couldn't get in to watch the absentee ballot count, except he didn't have the correct signed authorization. But, instead of just kicking the atty out, he was allowed to watch from the doorway.

You'd think the GOP would stop throwing good money after bad...

If there's a proper authorization, the judge of elections will review the form, then the authorized party will be able to stay and watch, but not interfere with the process. I was never part of an absentee ballot count, but I did have a couple poll watchers one election cycle. There are specific rules about how close to the actual voting booths they can be and they also are not allowed to speak to voters. Judges of elections have final authority inside the poll. Anyone, including police, deemed to be disrupting the voting inside can be ejected by the judge.
