One Time Only! House GOPers Spin Furiously After Dems Appear To Flip Deep Red PA District
Source: Talking Points Memo

The morning after Democrats eked out a probable narrow win in a formerly pro-Trump district in Pennsylvania, House Republican leaders publicly waved away the result as a fluke and doubled down on the idea that their tax cut bill will save them from a blue wave in this Novembers midterm elections.
This is something youre not going to see repeated, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) insisted on Wednesday, moments after he reportedly told his caucus behind closed doors that the flipped seat was a wakeup call for Republicans.
Ryan told reporters that Democrat Conor Lamb ran as a pro-gun, pro-life, anti-Nancy Pelosi conservative. He did not mention that Lamb also ran a staunchly pro-union, pro-Obamacare and anti-GOP tax bill race, or that Lamb has said publicly that he will not vote for abortion restrictions favored by Republicans.
Ryan also claimed that there are more Democrats in that district than Republicans, though President Donald Trump won the district by 20 points in 2016. Though the race has been viewed by both parties as a brutal referendum on Trumps presidency and a sign of building Democratic enthusiasm ahead of Novembers midterm elections, where many far more purple districts will be contested, Ryan insisted that Trump did not negatively impact the special election.

Instead they have bought his PR and smarmy image and presented him to the 'Murican public as some sort of economic policy expert.
Yeah, expert at destroying the middle class and shoveling money upwards.

(8,200 posts)The repeal of the "Fairness Doctrine" under Reagan and the 1996 change to allow mass ownership of radio stations ushered in the situation that has allowed for the virtual brainwashing of a large percentage of the populous. The Republicans are attempting to further the damage with additional changes by the FCC. This along with the major mass media's false equivalency providing outright lies to go totally unchallenged has also been a major factor. The question remains if the situation can be rectified before the total collapse and we end up with virtual dictatorship of the oligarchy.
It must be recognized that that Republican Party has adopted an increasingly fascist philosophy and tactics to win elections. This went into fully swing with Nixon's Southern Strategy and intensified with identification with the extreme religious factions who are determined to transform the government into a virtual theocracy that will be in alignment with White People's superior intellect and morality.
Make America Great Again is only a dog whistle scapegoating minorities that they fear are going to take over America. It should not be any surprise that Trump has given his tacit support for the worst elements of our society, i.e. White Supremacists, religious fundamentalists and evangelicals, anarchy, along with attacks on the foundation of the freedom of the press, peaceful assembly, respect for people regardless of ethnicity, and damn near the entire constitution. But give him time, he is new at the job of destroying government and will catch up Reagan's destructive principles when he can establish a dictatorship.

(5,801 posts)This is the most heavily propagandized country in the history of the world. The pukes are literally copying techniques perfected by the Nazis and using them on the American public. Fear of the other, scapegoating immigrants, fomenting divisions among ethnic groups, all the fascist stuff, etc.
The genius of it is that the brainwashing is operating while convincing the 'Murican public that this is the "land of the free" and hence certainly not subjected to propaganda.
The one thing that we can only hope will wake people up is when the actual effects of puke economic policies kick in and hurt 'Muricans. Of course, they have been getting screwed since raygun and still tolerate a lot of sh*t from the GOPeePee and affiliated economic interests. Perhaps now that pukes are running everything and their true agenda has been exposed, by the attempts to take away healthcare plus the tax scam, people are now aware. The Lamb election bodes well.

(43,177 posts)about how you see the situation because it reveals that you are in denial. Denial is our friend. The more you don't get it, the better it will be for us.
I did see an analysis that only 2% of 2016 Trump voters switched, and only 51.8% of people who voted were Trump 2016 voters.
I think that means some Trump voters stayed home. No matter. If apathy is our friend that is good too. If their greed for the rich doesn't resonate with their own voters, not my problem. If they spend $11 million to defend their own incumbents, well and good.
It comes down to our ground game vs. theirs. They have mercenary troops, we have grass roots fundraising and grassroots workers.
But in November it will be all districts, not just one, and national media will be focused on all races. We will no longer have the luxury of nationwide pool of activists for one district. We have to compete in maybe 275 of them.
It's money vs. heart.
Let's not lose this.

UNITED STATES - MARCH 06:......................................
When a reporter tried to point out that Lamb ran against Ryans tax plan. Ryan ignored her and asked the gathered press corps, Is there anything else anyone wants to talk about?
Other members of House leadership offered their own spin Wednesday morning.
Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) attributed the likely Republican loss to the fact that we arent even on full momentum on tax reform. She cautioned the press to be careful about making sweeping predictions.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), however, revealed some of the deeper anxiety Republicans are feeling about their political prospects going forward during his turn at the podium. He described in detail his nightmare scenario of what could happen if Democrats retake the House this November.
They said if they get the majority, their bill will raise taxes, and they go and double down by jacking up the death tax even more and they reinstate the Alternative Minimum Tax, which would cripple middle class families, he said. So its a great contrast to show what will happen if Nancy Pelosi is elected Speaker..........................

(16,254 posts)Let them wiggle and squirm. They are too ignorant to figure out they are truly in trouble, but if the Democrats continually brag about winning these seats, they might just catch on and double their efforts...or, cheat. We still have the Russians in play.
Just hush and let them think it's a fluke. They never believe anything a Democrat says, anyway. Best to hide in the bushes and bring about a sneak attack in November. Fortunately, they don't believe in polls unless they measure them on top.
