The rally against gun violence led by survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting has been granted permits to host as many as 500,000 people in downtown Washington, D.C.
March For Our Lives will begin at noon on Saturday, March 24, The Washington Post reported Tuesday. It is being organized by survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, where 17 people were killed on Valentines Day.
National Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst told The Washington Post an application was approved for usage of sidewalks along Pennsylvania Avenue NW between Third and 12th streets; sidewalks along Constitution Avenue NW between First and Ninth streets; green space between Constitution Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue and Third Street NW; and John Marshall Park, the U.S. Navy Memorial and Freedom Plaza.
............................... Information about street closures will be available soon.
......................
The band Fall Out Boy is set to headline a benefit concern the night before the march, with proceeds going to Everytown for Gun Safety and former Rep. Gabby Giffords' (D-Ariz.) organization, Giffords: Courage to Fight Gun Violence.

(12,448 posts)I do live in the DC area and will be marching there, but look what happened with the Women's March 2018. Many of the marches were LARGER than DC's. But even if they're not, local is great.
BTW, I used to live in Tampa and often worked in St. Pete; great area.

(42,334 posts)The Women's March overflowed its permitted area by a huge amount. It will be another great day for activism in DC and around the country.
I'll be at a local march here in FL.

(42,334 posts)My understanding is they got PA Avenue. The overflow will be on the Mall and other streets. The Women's March got the permit for Independence Ave, on the other side of the Mall. We never even got close to that street, or the speakers stage. The other streets, all the museum steps and the Mall were packed.
It was amazing!
