Pennsylvania Republican Defends 'Right-To-Work' Laws Before Vote In Union-Heavy District

But GOP candidate Rick Saccone also claimed to be unions’ “biggest salesman.”

By Daniel Marans

PITTSBURGH ― Republican Rick Saccone defended so-called “right-to-work” laws three days before a special election in a Western Pennsylvania district with a high rate of union membership.

Saccone, the GOP nominee in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District, took reporters’ questions at a small campaign event in the offices of the Republican Committee of Allegheny County on Friday evening.

Asked whether he would support a national right-to-work law, Saccone would not answer directly.

However, he justified right-to-work legislation, arguing that it would not be a hindrance to unions if they were “willing to compete.”

The unions are still voting Democratic, many of them, but they're not the juggernaut they used to be. Union membership has eroded in the Pittsburgh area in the last 30 years but we still have several good ones.

This special election is taking place in the 18th Congressional District, and it's in the Pittsburgh area (suburbs), just not the city of Pittsburgh. The unions are smart enough to not get taken in by these laws that have the fake names, like the "Right to Work" law. It only favors the owners, not the workers.

Right-to-Vote State..I'm sure he would be all for letting candidates have equal footing and compete for votes.

I work in a union factory as a white collar employee. I always hear a select few managers complaining about the union ruining the place, but the real problem is management from the top down. Our production workers and skilled trades are good, hard working people who understand the need to put out a good product. Management won't bring in enough skilled trades people to properly maintain equipment, then when breakdowns don't get fixed fast enough to suit them they're the first to blame everyone else.

Screw the repubs, and screw anyone who votes for them.

Exempting protected classes, of course. Right to work means enjoying union benefits and protections without paying dues for them.

that piece of shit "Right to Work" legislation would have been run through our legislature and probably would have passed.

We have to make SURE that we get Wolf re-elected this year and hopefully get Lamb in instead of this guy.
