Trump: Russia did not affect votes in 2016

President Trump said Tuesday that Russia did not impact the vote totals in the 2016 election while defending his administration’s efforts to counter election meddling. “The Russians had no impacts on our votes whatsoever,” Trump said during a news conference at the White House.

U.S. officials have said Moscow targeted 21 states’ voting systems two years ago but did not succeed in changing votes. The Intelligence Community has not weighed in on the impact of Russian interference but the Department of Homeland Security says there is no evidence to suggest that votes or voter rolls were altered.

Trump has come under fire from critics who say he is not doing enough to make sure Russia does not repeat its efforts in the 2018 midterm elections.

"We won't allow that to happen,” Trump said. “We will counteract it very strongly.”

Russia played a role, probably enough to tip the election. But Comey and the FBI dominated the race from start to finish. And they turned it completely upside down in the final 11 days.
