Washington governor confronts Trump at White House
Source: The Hill
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) confronted President Trump on Monday over his proposal to arm educators in order to prevent future school shootings.
Inslee stood and objected to the controversial idea during a meeting with the nations governors at the White House, telling Trump that law enforcement agencies and instructors are both alarmed by the idea of teachers packing heat around young children.
So I just suggest we need a little less tweeting here, a little more listening, said Inslee, who has been rumored as a possible Democratic challenger to Trump in 2020. Lets just take that off the table and move forward.
The president did not directly respond to the Washington governors comment, but he did call on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to explain how teachers and coaches are trained to carry firearms in his state.

(36 posts)My wife is trying her damnedest to convince me to pick up our family and move to Seattle. I'm originally from San Diego and I know Seattle would be the best place for us, it's just hard to pick up and move from all of our family and friends here in the Gunshine state. Her best friend (and only liberal one at that) lives there and wants us to move out there too. We are supposed to road trip there this summer but I'm afraid I really wont want to leave!

(66,394 posts)But it's not a guarantee.
I was born and raised in a warm climate, too; San Antonio, Texas. When we moved up here, I hated it at first. My perception is that it was always cold, rainy, and dreary. It took a while for that outlook to go away.
But now I love it here, and don't want to live anywhere else.

Since when did that EVER stop IQ45 from tweeting out his usual stupidity?
This is just the type of situation that puts burrs in his a$$ and keeps him awake at 3 AM - tweeting out stuff that he should really be leaving in that golden commode from which he rules.

(33,982 posts)He might confront Inslee, but I suspect he'll just pretend that whole confrontation never happened, while swiping at WA state.

Trump said he ate lunch last weekend with top NRA executives Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox, even as he said he is willing to take on the powerful gun-rights group.
If theyre not with you, we have to fight them once in a while, thats OK, the president said. But sometimes were going to have to be very tough and were going to have to fight them.
Trump has floated a wide-range of proposals from bolstering the gun background check system and raising the age limit to buy certain high-powered rifles to giving guns to trained teachers and staff. Trump expressed doubt the NRA would oppose his response.
"Don't worry about the NRA, the president told the governors. They're on our side. Half of you are so afraid of the NRA theres nothing to be afraid of.

(54,411 posts)Well, I certainly haven't been to any of the sessions, but taking into account the sophistication of our governor and A.G., my guess is the teachers are handed some high caliber weapons they can't even hold straight, and told, "ya just press on this trigger thingy and blow their asses to kingdom come!"
Knowing the sophistication of a few of our teachers, I wouldn't be surprised to hear of some of them doing just that. "Peggy-Sue, do you believe that Jesus wanted you to get that math problem wrong?"
"No, ma'am, I don't"
BLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Any other students share the late Peggy-Sue's viewpoint?"
Spent 35 years in schools - both as a teacher and an administrator.

(5,442 posts)During the Iraq war, he and two other congressman took the floor every Tuesday night and made the argument against our invasion in great detail and in great length. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times in Seattle--once bumping into him on my lunch break when I worked downtown. He listens, he gets it, and he isn't afraid to stand up for the right side. It would be indeed great if he were to run for president. I'd be behind him 100%.
