Ivanka Trump: Arming teachers an option that needs to be discussed
Source: NBC News
Ivanka Trump said in an exclusive interview with NBC News on Sunday that her father's suggestion of arming teachers is an option worth discussing. The president made the proposal after a gunman killed 17 people at a high school in Parkland, Florida, this month.
In an interview Sunday in South Korea, where Trump led the U.S. presidential delegation to the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games, NBC News' Peter Alexander asked Trump, the mother of three young children, whether she thinks providing teachers with firearms would make students safer.
"To be honest, I don't know," Trump said. "Obviously, there would have to be an incredibly high standard for who would be able to bear arms in our school. But I think there is no one solution for creating safety."
* * *
"I think that having a teacher who is armed who cares deeply about her students or his students and who is capable and qualified to bear arms is not a bad idea, but it is an idea that needs to be discussed," Trump said.

(19,204 posts)that makes these prominent Democrats look like idiots for suggesting it. I'd prefer the Republicans to wear the mantle of "biggest morons in Congress" and keep our Democrats free from such lunacy.

(118,696 posts)can't say the old standard "thoughts and prayers" or "this is not the time". So they put forth ideas that Don't involve gun control. And they are hoping nothing changes because the NRA is a wedge issue the GOP needs to keep split if they want to win elections. You can't convince rural middle class and working poor that government is going to take your money away with taxes but you can convince them government will come for their guns. It is like a Harriet jet landing. GOP and NRA want to land right back on the x despite the winds of Stoneman Douglas so they'll hover for a bit till people calm down and compensate with a call for more guns.

Apparently, they're not content enough with buying out our elections, they also want the privilege of affecting every aspect of our lives.
Why are these people given so much audience?

(19,204 posts)who seriously doubt Trump's net worth. Many say he's not a billionaire at all, with some saying his net worth isn't over $150 million. Trump always overvalues his assets. For instance, he officially values the name 'Trump' to be an asset worth $3 billion. I guess that's why there's a move on trying to get the name 'Trump' removed from just about every property connected with him. 'Trump' is becoming toxic as a brand, and by the time the complete story of his criminality surfaces, the name 'Trump' won't be worth a nickel. That would make me extremely happy, along with many, many others
murielm99
(30,745 posts)Every time someone calls him a billionaire, I cringe. (I cringe when they call him President, too).
I doubt that he has much money. He puts his name on properties he does not own, only licenses.
I think he is worried that people will find out that he does not have that much. That is one of the reasons he won't show us his taxes. Also, he has his financial worth all tied up with his manhood. In his mind, he would appear to be less of a man if he was broke.
You say $150 million. I wonder if it is even that much. He has declared bankruptcy several times. He has borrowed so heavily that reputable lending institutions won't give him any more.
What is his wealth? Where is it? Does he actually own his golf clubs, or are they so heavily mortgaged that he will never own them outright? We all know he is a fraud. His net worth may be a fraud, too.

(9,426 posts)"kids" are sucking the US treasury dry, protecting them and accompanying them on business trips world wide. None of them are worth the powder to blow them to HELL. None have ever had real jobs, just as toadies for daddy. Ivanka rips off other designers, and claims the styles as her own. Has knock-offs made in sweat shops in third world countries, while daddy claims he will "bring jobs back to this country" Just a FARCE of a family. How much have we paid for their Botox since ShitGibbon has taken office (thanks, Russia)?? Every member of the family is disgusting. Miserable Maleria included, along with her Communist parents residing in tRump Tower.

(14,492 posts)I'm even hoping all related card games change their standard dialog so the primary card suit is called something other than "tRumps", LOL. We want to insure that name goes down in infamy, just like the names Hitler and Capone!
I'd like to know what's holding back the IRS from completing their audit of his taxes. I'm betting his lawyers are stonewalling the IRS by delaying release of crucial info they need to wrap it up.
We may never really know what that family is actually worth, if anything. As you said, the name has become a liability and symbol of shame for many sitting on his branded properties.

(12,586 posts)When someone with an AR-15 walks in with murder in his mind and then walks out 15 minutes later leaving a trail of bodies -- including the armed teachers -- Trump will blame the teachers for not loving their students enough to stop the intruder. I'm appalled how the right wing and Trump are attacking the SRO and the Sheriff (who they make the point is a Democrat, as if that matters) instead of working on real answers to the problem.
During the b.s. "listening" session with students and parents -- "I hear you" -- Trump said he could think of ten solutions to the problem. I wish the next student to talk would have challenged him to describe all ten of them, and not just "arm the teachers." "If you can't name all ten, then I call b.s., Mr. President."
Trump held the photo op in the WH to have the home court advantage. Even though Donnie Two Scoops is "the most unimpressive person I've ever met," according to one survivor, the White House itself is incredibly impressive, and maybe a little intimidating. I thought the students held their own, however.

(33,643 posts)Elementary in Orinda, CA (a neighborhood where you couldn't buy a house for <$300,000 in NINETEEN SEVENTY SEVEN ... and now I'd be shocked if there's 1 home under $1M ... if there is, it's the home that time forgot I tell ya that), first thing I think of is her reaching into her desk during 2nd Period, pulling out the jammie, and peeling off a few CAPS at some fool who busted into the Classroom waving a friggin' AR around ... that's just, like WHO GRETCHEN G. was, ya know? Friggin' MathPaks by night (for homework, I mean) and Rambo by day, y'all!!!
Here's the damn point ... think about your teachers growing up, people. REALLY THINK ABOUT THEM ... and then try to reckon how this friggin' makes ANY sense?!? I can't think of 1 single teacher outside of PE that I could even remotely imagine ever defending the class ... with firearms in a live shooting situation.
Ivanka ... you are f***ing MORON. SHUT UP.

Wonder how much money she's laundered and will be charged with since she wants to be in the spotlight now. This is the most lying greed driven family in this country, and nothing they say or do means a thing. She's trying to gain attention now, and I suspect at some point he'll just stop doing anything making her the one doing his job so he can play golf all the time. I don't think people like her any either, and instead of NBC doing an interview , should stop doing this or their rating will keep falling too. She's a loser just like her dad.
