NRA Head Lashes Out At Gun Control Advocates, "They Hate Individual Freedom"

Source: The Guardian

Wayne LaPierre, head of the NRA, broke his silence this week after the Florida shooting with an unrepentant defence of gun rights and an aggressive attack on political elites who "hate individual freedom."

LaPierre used his address to the conservative conference CPAC to hit out at anti-gun campaigners, who, led by young survivors of the shooting, have attempted to make political headway in the last week.

"They fantasise about more laws stopping what other laws have failed to stop," the National Rifle Association executive vice-president said. "So many existing laws were ignored."

He added: "They don't care if their laws work or not. They just want to get more laws to get more control over people. But the NRA, the NRA does care."

LaPierre also hit out at the "breathless media" which he said was "eager to smear the NRA in the midst of genuine grief."

Elites want to "eliminate our firearms freedoms and eradicate all the individual freedoms," he said. "They hate the NRA, they hate the second amendment, they hate individual freedoms."

crazies, black and brown people, Isis attack, civilization collapse, Armageddon, you name it. There's so much fear promoted all around esp. in the media for a couple decades now at least, intentionally to get viewers/listeners. War, crime, drama sells.

And these type of people are completely selfish, it's about ME, Mine, and not WE, Us.
Do they really care that more kids were just murdered? We're 'the law abiding gun owners' they think, so 'not me.'

Every time a major attack happens, there's a run on guns and ammo at stores immediately afterwards, for fear the evil guvment will shut down supplies with some new law. Absolute hysteria about the need to be armed, always, which is aided and abetted by the extreme right for whom weapons sales and fear are highly profitable.

Fox TV, and 1,500 Hate Radio Stations all controlled by conservative corporations now, with 300 Radio Talkers propagandizing issues 24/7. A real mess, sorry to say, but things have to and will change!

"To hell with the rest of society, I'm an individual and I can do what I want!"

I have heard it said, "Your liberty to swing your fist ends just where my nose begins." (attributed to a variety of people)

In the current situation, I think this can be interpreted as, "Your right to own an assault weapon ends where my life begins."

It's sort of like saying they have the right to expose my kids to measles so they can be free from vaccines.

Or, corporation should be free to expose my family to pollutants so they can be free to make more profit. Or, religions should be free to push their dogma on the public whether we want it or not.

Republicans have a very warped sense of what freedom and democracy means.

Their primary gage always seems to be profitability.

I would be very happy not to have to worry about any of my loved ones, or me, getting shot by some trigger happy asshole who thinks killing is the way to solve problems.

If someone crept up behind LaPierre and stuck a muzzle in his back, he's probably pee his pants in a nanosecond.

Point for the TJ 'revolution' reference.
