Claire McCaskills GOP Opponent Slams Her Over Hollywood Ties
Source: Variety
The most vulnerable of all Democratic senators up for re-election next year will attend a fundraiser co-hosted by Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger on Thursday, and with it, a GOP candidate is using it to attack his opponent.
In the wake of the event, the campaign of Sen. Claire McCaskills opponent, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, put out a statement calling McCaskill Hollywoods candidate and is trying to link her to Harvey Weinstein, a GOP target after his sexual harassment and assault scandal broke last fall.
In the past, she gave Harvey Weinstein a taxpayer-funded advertisement for his movie, said Hawley spokesperson Kelli Ford. Its no surprise because she is one of the top recipients of money from Hollywood. Now she is going back for even more money.
The movie in question was Philomena, a Weinstein Co. release that was among the Oscar contenders in 2013-14, about Philomena Lees search for a child she was forced to put up for adoption. McCaskill met with Lee in 2014 to talk about the issue of forced adoption and Lees call for access to records in Ireland.

(19,204 posts)campaign money come from? I'm certain the NRA is in there somewhere. How many Hollywood celebrities does it take to equal the killing power of an AR-15 with a 50 round clip and a bump stock?
You can choose to not watch a Hollywood movie, if you prefer.
You can't choose not to be torn to pieces from a .223 caliber slug traveling at 3,240 ft./sec. screaming through the air, aimed at your torso though.
Go count your NRA blood money, fuck-wit.

(54,407 posts)All she has to do is say: "I am a centrist Democrat, and if I am supported by the conservative Disney organization over my Republican opponent, then he must not be very palatable to conservatives. I can understand his whining, but I dno't think that Missouri voters won't fall for it."

(22,137 posts)I'm a Missourian, and I'm kind of pissed off at people like this who forsake the voters of Missouri in his first term EVER as an elected official (and as young as he is, in this elected job, this is even worse). It isn't youth that I'm gripping at here, it's the experience one gets from a lifetime of experiences, and this guy hasn't even finished his first job. Nobody is that good. I don't care if you are Moses of the Red Sea.
Another gop thug being groomed by the gop in MO, because the gop in MO is desperate to elect ALL statewide MO offices 100% gop. And by the way, another lawyer...just what we all need (for those of you who are in DU land and are lawyers, I apologize, too many lawyers in Washington DC).
We need common, everyday mechanics (as well as other similar job vocations) Joe and Sally in our elected offices. No more blank blank blank lawyers. No more! The lawyers are part of the swamp problem.
And the gop wants to drain the swamp? Hypocrites. The "good ol' boys network" is up and well in MO. The gop has dammed up the river even more, and if anything, is preparing to take more of the rights of Missourians away by enacting so called legislative edicts for what constitutes morality in their minds (certainly don't let the citizens of MO decide what their rights are, heaven forbid). So, they'll waste numerous hours in mundane things such as bathrooms etc., marriage rights and so forth, all while ignoring the vast numbers of Missourians and the issues that truly impact them on a day-to-day basis.
Bathroom issues on who can use? Do away w/ all common bathrooms with multiple stalls and put in 20 separate unique bathrooms, any of which could be used in no matter what your gender.
I think Claire M. has done a great job for the state of MO considering all of the crap she's gotta put up with, considering the rest of the state of MO (except portions of KCMO) are gop. She's a friend of our Vets, and she's a friend of Missourians in need.
It takes experience gained over years and years of doing the job w/ numerous people to be an effective senator, and this guy thinks he can do it?
What a joke. He didn't even do 1 term of his elected office before going and running off for another elected position. Claire M. will wipe him off the floor deserving so.

(10,500 posts)This is an important issue. Forced adoptions, while no longer as prevalent as they once were, are still happening. Politicians need to be educated about this.
We need lawmakers who are committed to ending coercion in the adoption process.
