NRA opposes new age limits on gun purchases
Source: MSN/The Hill
The National Rifle Association (NRA) said Wednesday it opposes any new legislation that would put age restrictions on firearm purchases.
"We need serious proposals to prevent violent criminals and the dangerously mentally ill from acquiring firearms," NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said in a statement.
"Passing a law that makes it illegal for a 20-year-old to purchase a shotgun for hunting or adult single mother from purchasing the most effective self-defense rifle on the market punishes law-abiding citizens for the evil acts of criminals," she added.
Any law that requires an individual to be 21 or older to buy a firearm "effectively prohibits" adults aged 18-20 from buying a firearm, Baker said, "thus depriving them of their constitutional right to self-protection."

I have news for the conservative NRA. Your era has passed. It's time to move on and the #NeverAgain movement is going to see to that.

No person may ever have a gun again. Regulated militias, only. As in military. Not even the police - they may only use TASER or stun guns or even a baton.
Lesson has to be taught: Guns doesn't do shit.

To the gun industry, dead children are merely collateral damage/acceptable losses for gun industry profits and political donations.

(4,450 posts)The NRA are nothing more and nothing less than the lobbying arm of the gun manufacturers. They are no different than the insurance lobby, the alcohol lobby, the restauranteurs lobby, etc. etc. etc. They exist in order to maximize the profits of their clients. An age restriction cuts into that. End of story.

The only good thing about how even more batshit crazy they seem to be getting (which is really saying a lot, considering) is that maybe more people will finally begin to see their true colors and deal with them accordingly.

Ive had it - no reason ANYONE should have an assault rifle really - or anything designed to kill massive nos. of people.

(6,556 posts)Here are the statistics for NRA membership as of 2015:
"Per the Census, there are roughly 245 million adults aged 18 and over in the U.S. Multiplying the adult population by the ownership rate gives us between 73 million and 81 million adult gun owners in the U.S. And the 5 million NRA members represent about 6 or 7 percent of that total."
Forgive me, but that seems to be a very small minority in this discussion. 6% to 7% of the US population controls the gun violence issue. Doesn't make sense.

(24,330 posts)The have their own TV Networks, Radio Network and at least 7 publications (American Hunter, NRA Family, etc). Like with the christian reich it gives their followers daily input from the nra and those people happily share it with any one
The money and stuff help, but their devoted and involved followers make the difference
Some gun supporters, like the christian reich, will vote on a single issue (guns) and they vote in every election.
Sadly, that's not true of all groups (I read somewhere that people who place the environment as the most important issue, do not vote in all elections. I've seen similar numbers for pro-choice as well.) The gun people vote
pazzyanne
(6,556 posts)I would like to say that this environmentalist has voted in every election since she was able to vote. However, I do have other issues as well that are important to me. Sometimes you forget that others do not do what you think they would based on your values. Voting is such an important privilege/ right. My grandmother was adamant about voting as she did not have the right to vote until she was in her twenties. She taught me the importance of exercising this precious right.

(22,099 posts)His opening 10 minutes was eloquent, intelligent, and thoughtful. Mostly about how totally clueless and careless Rump is about gun issues. Then he had a couple of teachers on, one from the school in Florida, the other from Columbine. She made one of the best arguments against teachers packing a handgun that I've heard yet---what happens if you have an angry 17 year old, that overpowers her, and takes her gun? You've just armed a kid that wouldn't have had a gun otherwise.

(19,253 posts)Anything with a pistol grip is treated like a pistol: you have to be 21 and get a permit to purchase license from your local police dept.
Thus, AR's are still prohibited for those under 21, but hunting shotguns and rifles are fine.
